Harvey Awards drama

First, read the nominations for this year's Harvey Awards.

Then read the fanboy responses in this thread on Newsarama about Mark Waid declining his best writer nomination.

Okay, now look past the humorous bits where the fanboys can't comphrehend why Cable and Ultimate Spider-Man weren't nominated alongside Eightball and Acme Novelty Library.

What's up with this allegations about Crossgen? Do any of you sense something is up - I mean, two generic Crossgen comics nominated along in the same category as Daniel Clowes, Chris Ware, and Alan Moore... ? Wha? Something seems really wrong about that.

Also, what do you think about Mark Waid declining his own nomination? Modesty? Embarassment? Sinister conspiracy?

Comics awards can be just as silly as any other type of awards, if not moreso. The Harveys, named after a man who almost always did work-for-hire, generally celebrate independent comics, while the Eisners, named after a man who owns almost all his own work, is dominated by mainstream, corporate comics. never could figure that out.

Like any awards, they're going to be flawed in some way. In this case, the Harvey nominations are created based on votes by comic writers and artists. The comic artists and writers with the most solidarity to their company would have to be the ones at the Branch Crossgen Compound.

Fucking awards. Ignore them. Everyone else does.

At least with an Academy Award you can polish the little gold man, stand him up on your marble mantlepiece over your giant walk-in fireplace in your 20-room mansion in Beverly Hills, stand back and with a feeling of tremendous accomplishment, say to yourself, "yyyyyyyyess!"

But a Harvey award - why, you could lose that in a rooming-house fire...

I'm guessing its something to do with Waid's recent departure from an exclusive contract with crossgen and the behind the scenes fall ot from that- but hey, as cameron and moriarty say- its just not important.
