Origins of admiration...

I was just thinking today, trying to remember where I'd first seen Evan Dorkin's work. Then I remembered: Bill And Ted. That got me thinking about where I'd seen or read the work of other people I admire for the first time. I first saw Dan Clowes' stuff, for instance, when he was doing stuff for Cracked as Stosh Gillespie. And the first Grant Morrison story I ever read was, I'm ashamed to say, the fill-in he did on Spawn, back when I purchased that fantastic title regularly. Anyone else have some humorous and/or embarassing tales to share?
