Bill Jemas' writing credits.

I couldn't help but notice that Marvel president Bill Jemas is sharing credit with other writers for an awful lot of books, and I couldn't help but wonder, since all I really know of Jemas is that he's a suit who's expressed his admiration for the 60's Batman series. How much does he really add to, say, Ultimate Spider-Man?

I suspect not much. At least not more than any editor in the business. Editors at Marvel and DC have contributed to storylines for decades without needing to feed their ego with a story credit but Jemas has to have his name on everything. I'm surprised he has not done away with the "Stan Lee presents" yet and changed it to "Bill Jemas presents". Has any other Marvel president done this before? I don't think so. It's as if he wants to be editor in chief and Stan Lee rolled in one. It kind of takes the luster off Joe Quesada's position.

I respect his ability to round up some of the better writers and artists but if this guy really thinks he came up with the idea for Spider-Man then he is insane.

At a con I was at last year, Bendis says they give Jemas a credit in Ultimate Spider-Man because it was his idea to do the re-vamp and the magazine. Big fucking deal. John Byrne and the guys Marvel fired had the same idea a few years ago. All Ultimate Spider-Man is is a re-telling of the Stan Lee Spider-Man with a few pony-tails and the internet thrown in. If they give Jemas a credit for the re-vamp idea then they ought to at least credit Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for creating the story.

Do you think it could indicate that Joe Quesada is just a figure-head and talent scout and that Jemas does everything else? Or is that too obvious?

I'm beginning to suspect that Quesada and Jemas are the real Axis of Evil.

It could also be a lot like Hollywood where if someone says, "We should do a movie about a cow that sings. Get someone to write that." The person who asked for the singing cow movie gets a "story by" credit.

I would imagine Jemas thinks of himself like a modern Stan Lee, handing out ideas for people to write whether they use them or not.

The problem is, he's handing out ideas Stan Lee already handed out 30 some years ago.

And the most ridiculous part is Jemas is not credited as 'President' in ULTIMATES, but as 'inspiration'...
