To celibrate this weeks 25th aniversary of thhe Landmark UK comic 2000AD (and next weeks aniversary of the creation of Judge Dredd) the BBC have Wagner an interview with Dredd creator, John Wagner.

So, What do you all make of 2000AD and Dredd 25 years on? Is it still "the galaxy's greatest comic"?

i think a lot of people may take a similar position to myself: loved it for years (Dead Man - Inferno, roughly), still has a special place in my heart (and my parents' loft) but haven't read one for ages. except the special last year that had a new zenith story. which was pretty good.

Most shops here in the US don't carry it so I've only seen a few issues.

Great Link! Cheers.

Shit, BB might be coming back to work on Dredd. Now thats one series I will be buying.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I bought a couple of issues recently and its definately lost that special something it once had.

But its a total institution. Everyone I know who has collected it for any period of time has at least one or two characters/series that they regard as some of the best examples of the comic genre there is.

In its prime it was just so fresh and original, nothing like it was being done in comics anywhere else on the planet as far as I know.

Im not sure how it can recapture that, but I am optimistic with Rebellion at the helm. I think some of the real cutting edge of talent will be atracted to working in Video Games over the next ten years, and they are in just the right position to harness that creativity.

If ever I heard it was in danger of going under, Id have to start buying it again just on the merit of the great reads it has given me in the past.

I'd forgotten it even existed. Lost interest when it filled up with woeful Bisley imitators a few years ago, and never went back. Still, there was a time when I swore that me and 2000AD would 'always be together', so maybe I'll drop in on the old girl and see what she's up to.
