I feel as though I'm coming into this a bit late in the game, but jesus FUCKING christ, David Rees is hilarious.

For those not in the know, Rees is the man behind My New _____ Technique Is Unstoppable, which is a genius combo of comics, clip art, absurd humor, and incessant swearing.

I picked up Filing Technique the other day, and every damn page of it is funny, everyone I show it to wants to run out and buy their own copy - this is what should be the mainstream of the comic market, the scope of appeal that this kind of comics has blows the rest of the comics market out of the water.

What do you think?

Oh, and here's a comic with Voltron.

It's fucking genius. I've only read it online, but boy, is it fucking genius.

It also redefines "random unnecessary swearing" as a plot point for the 21st century.

And the whole Get Your War On one was great. I thought. Not too tasteless, and definitely great.

*bump*

Came across this while looking for Jay Babcock's Fela Kuti article. Man, I wish I would of thought of making comics out of clip art, seeingas I can't draw worth a damn.

get your war on is my favorite satirical cartoon of the decade. it's so truly inspired, so born completely from that guy's living horror. it's a perfect use of internet cartooning and clip art methods -- both are fast, instantaneous, even, destroying the usual time between the creator's reaction and the reader's response. generally, this results in poorly thought out, bad art, but in this particular work, it winds up being some of the best commentary of the time.

off topic -- isn't babcock's fela article incredible? the surly interview with ginger baker is hysterical. i think the whole piece was reprinted in an anthology of music writing edited by douglas wolk.

About Babcock's Fela article: I have a copy of the magazine that it originally appeared in, and I would be willing to photocopy the whole thing for you if you can't find it easily any other way.

About Rees: Get Yur War On is going to be released in book form very soon, you should go to the official website. It's going to be limited edition, signed and numbered, and all profits will go to landmine relief in Afghanistan.
