I've been wanting to collect the Authority tpb's, but since there's only two (and probably only likely to ever be two) of the things, I feel I should ask: How far back into the Stormwatch tpb's should an Authority fan go to get the "whole" story?
There's only five and you should get them all. Excellent excellent excellent super-hero books. Ellis at the top of his game, perhaps even better than his Authority run. Imagine that Stormwatch is the television series that wins all sorts of critical acclaim and Authority is the Big Screen movie that comes once the series has ended.
Possibly avoid the final Stormwatch where it all goes a bit wrong, as it is amazingly annoying and stupid. Get someone to lend it to you before you buy for the sake of completeness.
I enjoyed the Aliens crossover (even though the TPB for some reason has Benjamin Sisko on the cover) for the 'there's something there!' factor and the fact that most of the heroes get killed off-screen as t'wer, but the actual fighting the Aliens bit is rather short and disappointing. Will try and get the other trades now.
I'm with Nick on this one. It (Aliens Crossover) was rather naff, and a really unfitting way to knock off a couple of character that had really come into their own in Ellis' Stormwatch run.
It finally happened: I got my hot little hands on the "StormWatch: Force of Nature" TPB and am loving it. I have thus started down the path of collecting the entire series (and THEN I'll buy the Authority TPBs). And I have you guys to thank for the recommendation.
And in regard to "Final Orbit": Damn the Aliens! Full speed ahead!
