2000AD new stuff: Shakara 'n' S. Heaven

Storming Heaven:
Didn't like it.
It was a real Gladiator of a comic strip: all images and gloss, and no story or point. Crap.

Shakara, on the other hand, I'm mainly enjoying, because of the imaginative art, and

RELEVANT SATIRE!!
That guy with the eyeball for the head WAS the IMF.

I read the promotional glib on the main site for Storming Heaven and thought it sounded really promising. Haven't read any episodes though. Its crap is it? That's a shame.

Being honest, I bought 2000AD and the Megazine recently for the first time in years and was massively disappointed with the state of affairs.

Not that its awful or anything, its just I remember when it was really trying to push back the boundaries of what comics could be.
The Morrisons and Moores came out of that era and went on to conquer the world. Well, they became popular outside of the UK at any rate.

I've got strong faith in Rebellion though. What they’re doing with the new Dredd game looks awesome. These people are die-hard fans and they know their shit. I'm sure another 2000AD Golden Age will be on the horizon soon.

Gunlok was a pretty good game; I don't know how much it was like the strip, because I never read any of the strip. At the least it indicates that they can put a worthwhile game together.

Dunno, Storming Heaven doesn't seem that bad to me. It's kind of Wild Cards derivative though. I don't know whether they think nobody's read that or not, but I still remember it.

Not going to talk much about the state of 2000AD, since I'm an Old Skool gipper of the comic, who can remember reading the Dredd strip Apocalypse War. Old Gipper.

Saw the strip in a mates house, didn't read it as I'm an old cynical gipper (see above), but sure reminds me of Kevin O'Neil

Kevin o Neil's' work on Nemesis is still some of the best comic art Ive ever seen. A HUGE influence on me.

I wouldn't give up completely on it just yet. I can see interesting things developing from the convergence of Video Games and Comics. New ideas, fresh talent, different perspectives/skills. And no one is in a better position than Rebellion to develop it.

I know where you’re coming from though. I dont think it will ever be like it use to. But this is a crazy planet where things do move in cycles, so who knows how things will develop over the next decade?

storming heaven is the most embarrasingly shit strip I've perused in a loooong time. sub sub sub sub moore/morrison shlop.

gordon rennie (the writer) is an exceptionally bad writer.

Is the lead character in Storming Heaven not valled 'Dr. Trips' or something? I mean, cumon....

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Until they revise the policy where aspiring writers have to get a Future Shock accepted before they can even submit new series ideas, they won't get anything new and exciting. If there were any archetypal 5 page sci-fi stories with a twist in the tail that Alan Moore hadn't already done, then those gaps have been filled long ago by others. Hence all the pants Future Shocks that there have been recently (although Molly Eire's were occasionally good).

Here endeth the Future Shock rant (spot the frustrated writer?....)

Worse writer than Gordon Rennie:
Dan Abnett.
