Ok, just agree with me on this one, it's not gonna take too long: He's really awful, isn't he? Everybody has the same face on Preacher! People's hair looks like is shreds of paper...

Say what you like about his style, dillon manages to get mor expression out of faces in varying lengths of focus than many of his contemporaries.

Funny, i was just thinking about his stuff earlier. I felt the same way for a long time - that his stuff was just cutout, featureless. That was when he was on, um, Hellblazer, maybe? Did he do some Animal Man as well? Can't remember. But then I read Preacher, and his style totally clicked. He's in the same boat for me with John Romita Jr - when he's bad, the stuff is just awful, but when he's on, there's an economy that presents every essentail detail with no clutter at all - his layouts never interfere with the tone or thread of narrative. He certainly carried Preacher for me, and I really came to love his work.

I like both Dillon and JR Jr. Yeah, all their characters look alike but at least they look nice and they tell the story well. Romita Jr.'s Peter Parker has been so consistant for 20 years or so now. I see it and I know who it is. The same can't be said for a lot of artists non-costumed renderings.

Wow, I'm surprised that someone, anyone would cite the way Steve Dillon draws faces as a problem - I think faces is one of his strengths, really. I am awed by his ability to draw the same character's faces EXACTLY, PERFECTLY the same over and over, and give each character a good sense of well, character! He's great with expressions, he's great with body language - he knows his stuff. And the idea that he draws everyone to look the same - I don't see it, I think he draws a very very wide range of different faces and bodytypes with ease.

I think Dillon is a total pro, and unlike a lot of folks who qualify as a 'total pro', he's got a nice sense of style too.

I'm a fan, even though I haven't had any interest in reading any of his projects since Preacher.

Dillon's not bad, but I have to admit the last thing I saw from him, the Punisher mini, wasn't as good as his stuff in Preacher, probably due to the fact that Jimmy Palmiotti and not Dillon himself did the inking there. Anyway, maybe it's me and my feelings for preacher, but I think his art has been getting...I don't know...duller, maybe, his characters stiffer, like he was making everything in a rush. For me, this have been like this since around the middle of Preacher; in fact, I think he's just as responsible as Ennis for the greatness of the first twenty five or twenty six first issues of Preacher, but on the other hand he's also just as guilty as Ennis, for the debacle of the series from its middle to its end

I looked through some old issues (Holy War etc) and have to say that he really did a good job with the faces: jesse confronting Dáronique is an example, really beautiful end all.
As for the expressions he draws, I remember him being the only artist EVER that got my attention because of it. It was one panel where Tulip`s face is shown in close-up whle she rebukes Cassidy for his friends "trying to kill them". He really did it work, I thought: "This guy probably asked someone to make this face and then he took a picture..." it was too convincing.
My problem with him is that I think he`s really lazy... look at his characters body language, their clothes, for god`s sake, and the background scenario... and he can't draw tears for toffee, too...

There were several occasions in 'Preacher' where I thought a new character was an old one come back because of his limited skills, seen one Dillon redneck you have seen them all (I think it's the New Orleans story, there is no noticeable difference between Cassidy's old girlfriend and Tulip, except for an eyepatch). And if anyone is willing to claim that Custer isn't John Constantine with a wig on, please go ahead.

Ennis, Dillon, Crazy guys, lazy creators.
