The Master of the Pillbox Hat passed away last week. God bless, Kurt.

Thanks for the heads up, Jack.

I wasn't in the mood to elaborate on the day I found out. Sorry.

Kurt Schaffenberger was an old-school "hack" who did work for numerous titles through his long career. The reason I mentioned his passing at all is because I absolutely love his Lois Lane comics, the work he's best known for. In fact, any Superman comic from that era is fine reading. His Supergirl comics (and other work later in his career) didn't appeal to me as much, mainly because they didn't have that dichotomy that the restrained, conservative characters and the wacky, Red Kryptonite inspired that the 50's and 60's did.

His work, and others of the same period, were paid homage to in Flex Mentallo, in the part where the many transformation of Flex are shown. Also, Kurt worked on the Alan Moore scripted "Whater Happened to the Man of Tomorrow" story.

A decent biography can be found here.

Sad. I've seen a lot of his covers over the years. (Many mentioned at comic book resources.) Good stuff.
