In Bed With The Establishment

First page of The Establishment #5, out next week:

So The Golden, who as far as I can make out are all siblings and underage to boot, all sleep together. Dr Pharmacist sleeps on the ceiling, hooked up to some unspecified intravenous device, with a tell-tale Tom Baker scarf in the room. And as for Equus and Scarlet...

I knew there was a reason I liked this comic.

God, my comic shop is so shit this is the nearest I'm likely to get to it, unless I make a special trip to Leeds. I do like this comic, especially after I'd got over my initial distaste at the relentless Britculture-references, which I now rather like. I got issues one, two and four.

Do you think Equus is so named because he's hung like a horse?

Could be a Peter Shafer reference, but I haven't picked anything to support that idea up yet.(aaargh - syntax)

I bought the latest issue of this (#4?) yesterday and, well, thought it was a bit shit really.

All the jolly nice British pop culture references just seemed crowbarred into what's essentially a really shitty kids-cartoon level rip-off of the Authority, which I'd contest was grossly over-rated in the first place..

at the moment its UK centric popculture credo is its main selling point, but at least it HAS a selling point unlike say, the monarchy.

This is not to say that the monarchy is really bad at the moment, but it alienated its readership straight away and few bothered to come back at least the establishment offers disposable fun whilst its finding its feet - remember how the first 4 issues of 100 bullets failed to set the world on fire?

Probably because there's nothing to it: he's John Steed, from The Avengers, with Scarlet as his Diana Rigg/Honor Blackman figure.
