Please help me still the voices in my head.
Was there or was there not a Marvel comics character named Squirrel Girl? I seem to recall there was, but my brain is so addled that it could be something I made up one day and then forgot that I made up.

I think she had a squirrel tail and she talked to squirrels ,etc. Standard "Squirrel" power package. Anyone? Anyone?

(P.S. Squirrel. Squuuirrrellll. It's a funny word.)

I have no memory of this character.

Thank the gods.

Does that include the power to hold nuts in her mouth?

What? Somebody had to say it! (or will this begin another long joke appropriateness thread?)

...hold nuts in her mouth...

Ofermod, I hate you. Why didn't I think of that first, dammit?!

Wasn't there a member of the Green Lantern Corps who looked a lot like a squirrel ?

Or could it be Hepzibah, one of the Starjammers from the X-Men ? She hung out with Scott Summer's dad, didn't she ? Looked a lot like a squirrel...

No, I know that Green Lantern guy, that's Gnort. And it's not Hepzibah, either. It IS an actual character, that much I remember now. I remember seeing her team-up with Iron Man -- she helped him defeat Doctor Doom. As I recall, she used her AMAZING ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE WITH SQUIRRELS to get all the squirrels in the forest to pile-up on Doom's ship, causing it to crash. Oh, and one of the squirrels was named Monkey Joe. I wish I was making this up.

I gotta say...the PSA and the squirrel offering helpful moral hints are damned funny.

Squirrel Girl Returns in Great Lakes Avengers this month.

Funny how DC is killing off heroes and getting "darker and more dangerous" and Marvel is the company starting to do the fun, goofy type of comics again after their attempt at a "darker, more dangerous" universe a few years ago.

At DC, she'd probably get raped and killed by Mopee or something.

If you guys like Squirrel Girl and Monkey Joe in GLA, just wait for the gag with Living Lightning in GLA #2. I fell down laughing when Dan Slott showed it to me.

Interesting to notice that they've changed her costume from the grey trousers of ditko's original to the generic "superhero lady in sexy tights" design. A small quibble, but how many more sexy tights superhero ladies do we really need?

don't answer that...

The idea of an attractive young lady with a big furry squirrel tail is very enticing. Can we put this in the "What's your kink?" thread.

And Monkey Joe RULES.

The Great Lake Avengers had some time in the sun in Deadpool back in the late 90s. They were pretty funny. One of them just had the power to become perfectly flat. Name was Flatman as I recall....

So, GLA #1 was pretty darn entertaining. I'll happilly shell out for another issue. I'm not optimistic for the series in the long run, but hey, a laugh's a laugh.

Trivia moment: John Byrne, crazy hack that he now is, created the GLA in his West Coast Avengers run.
