Allred and Milligan, Quitely and Morrison. Mighty pop alliances. But Allred's consistencey.....hoo hah! The 'Nuff Said' ish is soooo ace - funny, horrific... How the fuck does he turn this shit out month after month?

I've noticed that he's getting better, too. Compare last month's X-Force to the ultrasloppy "finale" of the Atomics.

allred manages to capture the weirdness of milligan's world perfickly n all. chimes with the orrible brett ewins and shaky kane's visions.

but is better than both?

Allred's pop art is more idealistic than the dirty filth peddled by Kane and lacks the wrinkly realism of Ewins' stuff.

Not any better, not any worse.

X-Force by Milligan and Ewins or Milligan and Kane would have been completely different beasts.

I want an X book by Milligan and McCarthy. I want it now.

123 was fucking great.

I don't know, I thought 123 was pretty (I've been an Allred fan for years now), but the issue didn't really do anything for me. It's the first issue I didn't really enjoy.

Milligan is right in the script, referring to this issue as "what we laughingly refer to as this month's STORY".

Without Milligan's dialogue, it's just a pretty psychedelic pop art picture book...

well that sounds alright to me.

Yeah, but it does touch base w/ the neurotic engines driving the characters....and he kept it reeeeal simple, which, let's face it, is the secret to pulling off this whole silent ish business. And 123 served to expand/reduce (depending on yr perspective) the whole Doop thing. And afforded the opportunity for some really fantastic art (read like a fucking cartoon) so, in short, I don't know what yr grumbling about, Flux.

You grumpy grizzler.

y'know a while ago I had the doop translator pic on my desktop at work but I eventually removed it cos most of my colleagues were frighten by it. Thing is, whenever I shutdown the machine, Doop pops back on the screen for about two seconds, as if saying goodnight to me as I rush for the train.

Ah, I had that screensaver up for a while too... it's so cute. I like how his eyes would roll around in a very 'lazy eye Thom Yorke' sorta way...

Q: is the next issue of X-Force the non-Allred fill-in issue, or the beginning of that 'which X-Force member will die' thing?

And the letter pages with Doop icons 'comenting' the letters is the funniest of things.

And I so get the feeling he'll be offed in this new arc, poor fella.

According to Marvel's website, #124 is drawn by someone calling him/herself Darwyn Cooke. They also a have preview of the cover to #126, and it looks like Madman's sister in the graveyard there. http://www.marvel.com/comics/onsale/onsale.htm?id=29

Darwyn Cooke is a very talented cartoonist. He/She (i'm not sure) does DC's new Catwoman thing lately (which our own Cameron Stewart was doing a fill-in for...)

Cooke is fairly similar in tone and style to Allred, it shouldn't be too jarring. The issue is a stand alone story, I know that...

It's nice to see somebody is choosing appropriate fill-in artists and understanding that fill-in artists are best suited to fill-in stories...

um, I think it's probably Mr. Sensitive, because one of the covers that has been solicited has his gloves digging out of a grave...

Darwyn Cooke's Catwoman run was inked by Allred, so there's a weird karmic thing going on there.

Cameron isn't just doing a fill-in issue. Cooke is off the title after issue #4. I'm not 100 % positive what Cameron's duties are (inking, pencilling, a little bit of both), but judging by the sketches he's been posting at Shane Glines, I'd guess he may be gearing up for a regular pencilling gig.

I bet they don't kill anyone off. It's all about the hype. And if they do, I guess it's OK, as long as it's not Doop. Or Edie. Or Mr Orphan Man. Or the Anarchist. Or Vivisector.

If I had to ditch anyone, it'd be Phat. The joke is over with that guy, I think.

Doop is cute, but doesn't do as much to make me feel any attachment to him.

So long as they don't kill Edie, Myles, or Tike...

Has anyone read anything specifying how long the Milligan/Allred run on this book is going to be?

Agreed. Though I wouldn't mind seeing The Anarchist go. I just never took a shine to the whole Dennis Rodman schtick. He's a bit boring actually. Trade him for Spike.

And after reading up on this Darwyn Cooke guy, he's got the perfect Eisner/ John Kricfalusi sort of kitschyness. Par for the course actually.

I really liked Tike in the Lacuna story... up til then, I didn't really care for him.

I'd like to see him stick around a little longer, if just to see him deal with Spike a bit more...

So presumably that's Dead Girl, right? And those are Guy's gloves but I assume it's too obvious to say that he's the one who dies.

(Course, it could be a scam where someone dies and this Dead Girl brings them back?)
