marvel trades

i was really impressed by the prompt appearances of the X-Force and New Xmen trade paperbacks - within weeks of their storylines being completed.

is this now marvel policy? have they made any statement to such effect?

i have often dreamed of freeing myself from this sordid four colour addiction of mine, perpetuated by the intravenous drip of monthly comics.

and of course the fetid air, the eau-de-geek, of the local android's dungeon is an unpleasantness that i would like to minimise.

can we rely on regular collected editions from marvel? anyone know what they've got planned for forthcoming Xmen trades?

this is indeed Marvel's new plan, more or less. At least with X-Force and New X-Men, you can rest assured that every six months or so, there will be a new trade coming out.

Meaning: you can stop buying New X-Men monthly and just wait til they are collected, which will be immediately after the story is completed.

but that way you can't discuss the new issues when they come out with the rest of us here at Barbelith!

I can't help but think that Marvel's new trade policy is a wee bit short-sighted. I applaud them for trying to catch up with DC and bring out a library of books that will remain in print, but there's a bit of a glut at the moment. And releasing them so soon after the original serial issues might prove harmful to their monthly sales (and Marvel is in no financial position to be risking loss of revenue).

Well, it seems that not everything they are putting out in trade format merits it...

I mean, is there ANYONE, anyone on this PLANET who wants to buy a Joe Casey Uncanny X-Men Poptopia trade?

Joe Casey's mother, probably.

are you implying that Casey's such a mean bastard he won't even give his mother a free copy?

so can we expect the next one following "germ free generation" ? another four issue bundle ?

I'm kind of more interested in their reprints of old Marvel UK stuff. I read the Delano/Davis Captain Britain one and it was good. Can't wait for the Alan Moore stuff. I'd love to see reprints of Moore and MOrrison's respective Dr. Who strips, perhaps Grant's Zoids ones. Considering he's writing the best-selling x-comic at the moment, why not?

Its extremely unlikely you'll see morrison zoids stuff being reprinted beacuse A) the licence to the toys is not owned by marvel and B) Marvel UK sold itself to Pannini, an italian sticker company

There -is- a Captain Britain trade coming out in a month or so, Captain Zoom, but I can't remember which run it was. The Delano stuff was collected ages ago in an OOP trade and the Moore stuff was rereleased a few years back... Maybe it'll be a collection of all of it. Fingers crossed.

Far as I know the trade, due out this month, is of Moore's run. It was big news 'cause JQ finally got Moore to deal with Marvel. I'm quite looking forward to it. Apart from From Hell, I've only really enjoyed Moore's super-hero work. Well, and Swamp THing too.

I too think they are putting the TPB's out too fast. Its like they come out before the story arch is done. Especially with X-Force.

I am excited about the upcoming collection of Moore's Captain Britain. I've never read it.
