I want to shake Peter Milligan's hand... he's making clear, thoughtful politic points on nearly every page of the new issue...

He deals with black racism really well, the dynamic between Tike and Spike ("nothin' but a glorified spear chucker"), the accusations that Tike wishes that he were white, and of course that Phat wishes he were black, Edie's tv show, Guy's unease with Edie's attraction to him, the debate at the press conferance with the broadcastes spouting disclaimers about the content of what Tike, Spike, and Edie are arguing about so Marvel doesn't have to, "there's nothing like a mutant slugfest to take your mind off of the thorny topic of race!" and Lacuna's deluded postmodern analysis of their motives... and her revelation to the group...("I'm Lacuna! The one who's been doing all that CRAZY stuff to you!" "What crazy stuff?" "You remember. The fish. The funny hats.")

Excellent stuff, and Mike & Laura Allred make it all so pretty and pop. Thoughts?

I’m really enjoying X-Force. It raises the question, “Does calling attention to its own insignificance make a comic book in any way significant?”

What clicked for me with this last episode was the reality TV connection. X-Force is essentially superhero Survivor.

Yeah... that Book just get better... i loved all the multi layered Media Zoom outs... you know First an image of Edie fighting... then that image/footage is actually behind her while she's on her TV show... then Guy & Edie are watching that same show talking... Total min bender!!!

While some may Not I Absolutely loveed the color & use of the computer... For Spike's Tatoos... Edie's Dress... and so on!!! It just ROCKS from Cover to cover...

I wonder what an Annual would read like?

I'm with you guys, X Force is one of the best things I've read scence...
Oh, Transmet 4 years ago. You just to love Lacuna for being really crap. Those hats. I had no Idea what was going on in those pannels. I love the way U go girl is so wrapped up in herself she didn't notice. Same with the Lacuna standing behind Orphan and U GO with a paint can in her hand and no one noticed.

Nice.

So, Lacuna's powers are spatio-temporal? Check out the marks on her face (or whatever they are) when she's in costume. Kang, anyone?

Neat and geeky.

I bought the trade last week - I must say, it's great timing to put out a trade paperback just before you put out the next issue.

This is probably my favourite comic of the moment. Yes, even better than New X-Men.

Some cracking lines in this one:

"Go on, my little profitable units! Fight! Fight!"

"Who knows how long this gravy train is going to keep rolling? We have to make hay while the mixed metaphors last."

"I'm never really sure about these things... but isn't this about the time you kick his ass?"

Love the random silliness of Lacuna's sudden appearance: "Ta Da!"

I also like the idea of mutants having their own morality - it's something I've wanted Grant to tackle in NXM, but Peter Milligan's got there first...

(And er... someone reassure me that I'm not the only one with the huge crush on Edie? Blue skin, red hair, acid tongue*... wow.)

*Not a literal acid tongue, obviously.

General backslapping directed at Pete Milligan.

It looks like he's got something that will last, and will compare with his best work. It's not his usual marvel tat, and while it is deeply morbid it manages the weird fun stuff he's not pulled off for years.

[pathetic geek]I've always thought that Mike Allred drew the cutest girls in comics this side of Philip Bond... Edie is super-cute, but Saint Anna and Lacuna are pretty sweet too...[/pathetic geek]

Does anyone know what Bond is up to?

not sure what bond is up to at the moment apart from enjoying married life with his wife, editor shelly. Quate possibly he's found work outside comics that pays better...

Philip Bond is currently drawing Angel and the Ape, a 4 part miniseries, for Vertigo (three issues are out, last one out this week I believe, or maybe next week).

Warning: apart from the art, it is rubbish.

Someone once told me I looked like I was drawn by Philip Bond. Best compliment I ever had.

Was she into erotic asphyxiation, or did she just use way too much eyeshadow?

hahahaha funny! no it's just the red hair, constantly changin' from cute style to cute style and something in the facial features... altho the gal in my class was not so fashionable, tho she did always wear tight local band t shirts so either way i'm not complaining

I like that Edie is outside the usual Barbie superheroine body type. I mean, she’s not Enid, but she is zaftig.

It's not eyeshadow on Edie - it's dark circles under her eyes from not getting enough sleep. Remember that teleporting makes her tired.

Unless that isn't what you were referring to, in which case, I'll shut up now.

I think he meant she was blue.

She is blue, isn't she? It's not just a Rodimus-Prime-is-green-on-the-first-page-of-Wanted:Galvatron! style error, corrected in the trade paperback?

<crazed fanboy>if they MURDER Edie I will drop this title, never buy another Marvel comic ever ever EVER again, boycott everything Peter Milligan writes, send him death threats, send Joe Quesada death threats, picket the Marvel offices, and found some kind of pressure group to BRING BACK U GO GIRL!!!</crazed fanboy>

Well, okay, maybe not. But I will be a bit upset.

Alas, not to my knowledge. But the issue was printed twice - the first run had a green Rodimus Prime on the front page, the second didn't.

I really hope I am at least factually incorrect in some particular. Otherwise I am a wery disturbed young man, yes?

This latest issue better than the last issue of New X-Men?

I reckon so (as if anyone cares).

sfunny coz i always take a wee while to get round to reading this title - it just doesn't sem to give off the required glamour - but once I do start reading the rag I practically juice my sensors!

and yeah, edie was incredibly sexy thisish.

Can someone please tell me why there are almost no traces of Peter Milligan on the web? There's one website devoted to him that has an old interview with him and old news, but nothing from the X-Force era.

This is very troubling. There should be more Milligan resources...

[N.O.B.O.D.Y.]

Well, you know...Peter Milligan was always one of the best, but this is probably the first time he gets commercial success...I wouldn't be surprised if he received a "Best New Writer" award or something like that. So that might be why there's not a lot of stuff on the WWW about him.
