Is it only me who didn't know that the whole of fucking Stormwatch was eaten by Aliens (TM)?

Am I the only one who can barely breath for the shock of crappiness?

Aiee...

yes you are indeed the only one nick.

Actually I thought it was pretty funny that most of stormwatch gets killed off panel and that it was done as part of an inter company cross over-

But it was so bad...[sniffle]...

And it actually managed to traduce Aliens and Stormwatch at the same time! It was like some ghastly "Let's Don't" instruction book.

Aiee.

Again. And it made no sense. And, and, and...

I haven't read any Stormwatch stories, so I'll reserve judgment on the quality of the story until I actually know what I'm talking about (for once ).

But I do recall what the initial press releases said about the Aliens dusting Stormwatch (WildC.A.T.s vs. Aliens, right?). They were going for a crossover that would have an actual impact, as opposed to the normal Aliens crossover (where every major character survives the encounter with these alleged living killing machines with no appreciable affect on the status quo). So that meant character deaths by the bucketful.

The Good: Lots of characters actually die. A cross-over that has ACTUAL IMPACT.

The Bad: It's really not a very good story.
It certainly pales in comparison to the rest of Ellis' Stormwatch run (which is truly excellent.)

I read in some graphic novel intro that Ellis killed stormwatch off pannel cause he was sick of them and was getting shit from his editor.

Bless. the world needs more nuts writers.

Mister Remington Finn

If you hunt down the original books and read the letter pages Warren totally explains why he did it.
First of all he got the StormWatch Title just to kill it off, for Image Wildstorm was going to be bought by DC and change was immenent (did I spell that right....?). But when he actually finished the run , he kinda liked the characters he created (Jenny Sparks, Jack Hawksmoor) that he jumped on the change on the new StormWatch. But there he said he couldnt feel the same chemistry with Phil Jimenez as he had with Tom Raeney (lord help me, I´m typing this straight from my fragmented memory). so he set the train in motion to kill the serie...and then got hooked up with Paul Neary and Brian Hitch...MAGIC!!! So StormWatch get killes off with the use of Aliens (who are DC and were also kinda used to celebrate the union with Wildstorm an DC) and They started with The Authority. And after twelve issues of that Warren couldnt see a way to top his last story arc and gave it away to Millar...

Please read the relevant issues and letterpages for the full story....

I believe Mr Finn is right! Ellis liked working with Hitch (who came on around SW Vol2 #4-ish) after not working so well with Jiminez. He loved a few of the characters so decided to keep them for a new series The Authority. I even think he said before Authority 1 came out that he only had three big stories he could tell with those characters as well.

I didn't think the WILDCATS/ALIENS crossover was that bad really. Compared to nearly every other comic/movie crossover anyway.

there is a clear progression in ellis' 3 storielines in terms of scale
1st stroyline vs genocidal supervillian
2nd storyline vs genocidal invading reality
3rd stroyline vs God.

its easy to see why ellis bowed out when he did
