I'm a little weirded out by the prescence of the Hulk in alot of these pin-ups. His actions have resulted in the (fictional) destruction of a great deal of property and the cost of many lives. I'm sure the firefighters and cops of the Marvel Universe love him to bits.

I remember hearing that Q and co. asked the contributors to the Heroes book to tone down the use of superheroes in their pictures. You can tell the pros from the hacks in their choice of subjects. Joe Kubert!

Inappropriate and more pathetic than Miller's and Deodato's pics.

I haven't seen Millers.

I do love JMR's though in next weeks (?) Spiderman. Brilliant.

So should comics deal with 9-11 or just pretend it didn't happen and airbrush the Twin Towers out of reality?

Deal with it for crying out loud.
Doesn't this rampant airbrushing from reality strike anyone as a little insulting to the people who lost their lives?
If our fantasies are a reflection of our reality, surely major things that happen IRL should affect fantasy worlds. Did the Holocaust happen in the Marvel U? How about WW2, that one definitely happened. Rather than glossing it over, why not deal with the fact that it happened and move on, just like people in the real world are doing.

Zoom.

I found most of the HEROES pinups to be pretty glib - I've taken to calling the book WEEPING FIREMAN COMICS, much to the irritation - which in turn feeds my amusement - of my local comic shop owner.

There's one of two effective pages, but ones like the Campbell piece above, or the Dale Keown Hulk page completely ruin it for me.

Mind you, I'm looking at it as an adult - if you take it as being aimed at kids, then having Captain America holding raised hands with a paramedic may be getting the point across to them rather well, I don't know.

It's selling well, at any rate, which is good.

hm. I don't know, it's more cheesy than it is inappropriate. I'm not sure what they are all so fucking happy about, though. "YES!!! Thousands of people are dead and the world is at war with an invisible enemy! WHOO-HOO!"

What I gleaned from that pin-up: J Scott Cambpell likes Sal Larocca's redesigns of Storm and Rogue, but not Frank Quitely's Wolverine...

patriotism is the pinnacle of ignorance. its sad that this tragedy happened and inevitable that the mainstream hero comics would sink low enough to appeal to sentimental nationalism. even if they(the publishers, artists, etc..)perceive it as authentic feeling, it still doesn't take away from the fact that shit like helps reinforce the notion of american fascism.

I have only read a single comic featuring The Scarlet Witch and that was Avengers #400 and she looked very similar to Rogue in that issue.

Nuff said.

Whisper, when the hell does the shameless, commercial explotitaion of a tragedy (by a singular independant merchant) have anything to do with "a system of extreme right-wing dictatorial governemnt" (as defined by Oxford American Dictionary, 1980)?

I once bought their entertainment for escape, BY MY OWN CHOICE, WITH MONEY I EARNED. I ignore cheap garbage by any merchant I don't care to buy, but I make my own choices, like everybody else. The government didn't have crap to do with Marvel's choice in taste.

Bang on, Moriarity. The Hulk for decades was a walking disaster in the Marvel universe. I believe it's hypocrisy to show him as a endorsement of heroism, as opposed to a cold war, emotionally-handicapped embodiment of rage and self-destruction.
