US 2000 AD trade paperbacks...

Perhaps I've just been looking in the wrong places, but have there ever been any US-available paperback collections of old 2000 AD comics?

And if not, why not? Why on earth would they not sell vintage Morrison, Moore, Grant, Wagner, Ennis, et al comics that are very much unavailable in the US to a market that obvious exists for it?

I'm not sure if its what you're looking for, but I just recently saw "The Complete Halo Jones" by Moore and "Judge Dredd: Emerald Isle" by Ennis in my comic shop in Chicago. Both new. And I've heard that a complete reprint of Moore's "D.R. and Quinch" stories is coming soon

That's good to hear.

I'm actually more interested in seeing trade paperbacks which collect a variety of different stories by different creators...a collection of short stories and things like that.

Judge Dredd doesn't hold much appeal for me, though.

What is Halo Jones about, I'm curious? I've seen the title thrown about, but I'm not sure what it is....

There must be a Halo Jones thread somewhere. This is how I remember it. Written it his pert but symbolic mode by Alan Moore, and drawn by Ian (ooh I miss him) Gibson, this started out as an adventure of three downtown girls and their robotic dog in a dystopic future that eerily predicts Radio Five, but is shot through with references to a big, beautiful universe that might just provide escape fullfilment and romance.

It does for one of the three, the Girl Halo, but its also full of learning, betrayal, growth and melancholy and cute bands that sing my favourite lyric of all time.

'I am missing planet boy
everything smells of helium'

Now while I have your attention:- is planet boy some boy who is missed, or a boy from the missing planet?'

Fuck; another option to worry over.

I want clarity on this!

Failing clarity, would you take an excellent new interview with Alan Moore in the new issue of
The Onion's AV Club instead?

He talks all about film adaptions, Watchmen, and the magic of Promethea... nicely done.

The reason that it mightg have been hard for American readers to get 2000AD trades in the past was perhaps that they were produced by titain a company who also produce UK versions of DC Dark horse and Marvel Graphic Novels. they were never really geared to a US market- more recently a childrens book publisher Hamlyn had the rights to produce graphic novels drawing on all coloured out put from 2000AD (for some weird reason Titan still had the rights to reprint the B/W stuff). The also saw no need to aim at an already overcrowded american market. Its only with Titain's recent reaquiring of rights to produce colour collections of 2000AD material- coupled with Simon Furman's (Titan's senior editor and former comic writer) guiding hand that an American audience is being sought for this material
