and just to piss off everyone marvel is soliciting januarys issue of this.

Nice cover art work here and interesting symbols in the background (you may have to enlarge the piccy).

Just two questions: 1) do we think those are sigils?; and 2) did the second september issue get released yet or are we still waitting?

I think the new issue is out today, but I haven't stopped by a shop yet... that's 118, fyi.

It's really nice to see an uninked Quitely drawing...he just blows me away.

That cover is brilliant...can't wait to see it inked and colored.

Imperial is a cool title for the arc, too..

Anyone know why it's headed up as "Marvel Mangaverse: New Dawn #1 " ?

from Your Man At Marvel

quote:
The other idea began when EIC Joe Quesada told Smitty that Ben Dunn, he of Ninja High School fame, had pitched him the idea of doing wild Eastern-influenced versions of our most famous characters. So Joe and Smitty thought it would be really fun to invite Manga-influenced artists to totally remake the Marvel Universe in Anime style, while still preserving that special something that makes our heroes and villains so... well, Marvel.

And that is the secret origin of Marvel Mangaverse, the three-week event that's coming your way in January 2002. There are a few things I really like about how this idea shaped up. Number one, it takes place in only eight books, it's not some 32-part crossover, so it won't break your bank. Second, it's totally self-contained, so if you don't care for Manga, it won't impact on your regular monthly Marvel mags. Third, it centers on the characters you like, such as the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. We even threw in cool horror characters like Hellstorm and Werewolf by Night just to make things interesting. I'm also impressed by both the line-up of creators and the story ideas and art they've turned in so far. And C.B., since he's an expert in Asian culture, is even writing a book himself! Finally, I like the fact that each book gives you a different flavor. The naughty hi-jinks of Punisher is not like Spider-Man's story of a young hero's quest and neither is like the monsterific Ghost Rider.

Not sure what this has to do with New X-Men. Esspecially since the summary of New Dawn #1 has got nothing to do with New X-Men. May be it's just a typo.

It's really frustrating, these long inexplicable waits...I mean, wasn't this issue already in the can? What are they waiting for?

Good Lord.

i wonder what that guy who wrote "Seduction of the Innocent" would make of that ummm... "conveniently" placed sleeve fold. Marvel only ditched the Comics Code a couple of months ago and they're already doing this!

Maybe it's just me, but that drawin' ain't entirely wholesome.

I've finally cracked it! If you want to know when the new ish is gonna emerge, simply sign up for the 'Mighty Marvel Mailer'. It updates the woefully buggered up shipping times on their website. As it stands, the next NXM will be out next Thursday, 119 will be out on the 21st and 120 will be available on December the 5th (I think this one might be subject to further alterations).

And that cover looks fantastic.

settle down, she's just wearing skin-tight clothing, she's not exactly naked under the loose fitting clothes...

No, no no no no... look at the sleeve-fold, and where it is, and what it looks like...

Not that your average X-fanboy knows what that looks like, anyway...

ah. I guess so. I kinda doubt Quitely intended that to come out that way...it's just one of those things.

I've a feeling most people wouldn't see it unless they were looking for it.

ha! well, that was pretty obvious and literal...

okay, okay, okay! Frank Quitely is some kind of sick vagina freak! I admit it!

well... I guess it depends on the colorest eh?

If the "inner lining" of that sleeve turns out to be say.... Pink then well... that may turn out to be quite a cover...

-- 1) do we think those are sigils?--

They're lots of 'Xs' to me. Pick up # 114 again and see the pics. There's an 'X' at almost every panel.

Coming from Grant, it's probably not thrown out at random.

And yes, him and Quitely are designing the most sexual covers around, much to my joy.

My mom picking # 116 from the desk and looking at the cover:

"Um, is this porn?"

"No, it's X-Men."

"Shame it's only in English."
