The best comic character EVER

Thundersword. Does anyone else remember this guy? He's only been in two comics, an issue of Secret Wars 2 and Iron Man #197.

A thirty-something, slightly overweight, white, Hollywood writer who was granted a fraction of the beyonders power. He transformed himself into his ideal superhero image. His awesome powers were used to destroy fast food franchises and Hollywood studios, all while spitting out post ironic, self refrential one liners.
Grant Morrison should get ahold of this character for a mini-series...

Oh god yes, wasn't his battlecry something like "Do you know how many bullets were fired in last nights The A-Team without killing anyone?!"

Maggot was the best superhero ever.

A big black/ blue african guy who had maggots for kidneys/ intestines and they would eat stuff for him like bombs and beggars. Brilliant.
I mean how could anyone make a character like that boring?

<looks in X Men back issues>

...Ahhhh.......

Longshot was the greatest ever, the lucky bastard.

And he was a robot, which automatically doubles his 'cool' factor.

(edit)

Never Mind. It's number 1. Gawd I'm a geek on Sundays.

Longshot wasn't a robot, he was more of bioengineered humanoid with three fingers and a bad mullet.

and his girlfriend was Dazzler, the Britney Spears of the X-Men world...

I think the coolest comic book character ever is a dead heat tie between Crazy Jane and Rebis out of Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol.

Ric the Vic. For keeping a sub-machine gun in his pulpit.

The Garth Ennis run of Hellblazer had a brilliant supporting cast.

Morrison's spin forced all meat-and-potatoes-eating super heroes to appear on the Jerry Springer Show.

Saturn Red, from Casual Heroes.

Evil mastermind in a lab coat: "Has Saturn Red showed up to fight my robot monster yet?"

Flunky, peering through video screen: "Not yet, boss, but your machine just knocked over another skyscraper."

Evil mastermind: "Bah! Well, he'll show up eventually; he can't go on boffing his underaged fans forever!"

Agreed. Its too bad the character was never a sales hit, and everything Giffen did from that point was far less entertaining. I *still* will buy every copy of the Ambush Bug comics I find in quarter bin to give to people who then read them and laugh despite themselves.

I have every Ambush Bug appearance. All of them. Even the issue of Crisis that he pops up in (and I know he said he didn't take part, but he was lying).

I am going to be a very sad, lonely, old man.

Good one...

I loved Mr. Six. The Tick, too, and the cool secret agent from the Tick #7.

Secret agent: "My agency's been a bit quiet recently..."

Tick: "When was the last time they contacted you?"

Secret agent: "Noonish. Summer. 1957. They're being a little coy, I'll admit."

Lozt, I just thumbed through my collection and realized that I had sold my copy of Casual Heroes #1, so I can't name the artist, writer or even the company. To my recollection, though, its absence is not a spectacular loss. Apart from one or two witty lines ("Troublemaker, come to the plaza, quick! It's an emergency!" "What, did Saturn Red run out of prophylactics again?"), the comic had nothing to boast about.

If I remember rightly, the Secret Wars threw up a whole load of "international" superheroes who were never seen again. There was an Israeli woman who flew about with a furry blue cape, and an Australian Aboriginal who could go into dreamtime and hit people over the head with his boomerang. And someone from the North of England with a faithful whippet, a string of deadly black puddings, and a sack of coal for the chucking at of supervillains.

feature Mr Six?

Contest of Champions! Christ, I'd forgotten about that. It was truly awful, wasn't it?

What about The Foolkiller from old issues of the Defenders? I've a vage feeling he came back somewhere.

The guy with the Tree of Gloves in Doom Patrol.

Or Nightcrawler. Not very left-field, I realise, but he looks so damn cool.

I always liked the Thin Man from old Invaders oppos The Liberty Legion, largely because he had a shit green costume and the most useless power ever - he was thin!

There was a Foolkiller mini-series in the 90's at some point, with a whole batch of Foolkillers. I could find what issues I have and mail them to you if interested.
