Hardly seems like a retrospective interpretation: it was very clear to me, even at the time, that Grant was creating a straw-man image of the ultraviolent Hollywood-thriller in INVISIBLE V.2 only to knock it down: THAT, if anything, was the big hoax. The Kiss Kiss Bang Bang of "Black Science" and its immediate successors was a set-up, a con job, intentionally over-the-top. King Mob's atrocities, in particular, escalated until even he said Basta! and consciously rejected not only violent methods (living by the sword), but the notion of the inescapability of violence (dying by the sword).
All these hints were being thrown out that the King would die violently before series' end, but he managed to transcend his violent nature for more transcndent, lateral problem-solving (as opposed to Jolly Roger, who continued to live by the sword--and eventually die by it)--has his past sins expiated by the kindness of Audrey Murray and in the process lays his own violent nature to rest, unmourned, and goes on to live a peaceful, productive life.
Entirely consistent. |
