Marvel's silent month

Am I alone in thinking this is going to be lame, lame, lame?

It's just not fair that Grant's New X-Men won't be counted out, I mean, half the fun of Grant's writing is his dialogue...

Ugh. Fucking gimmicks.

I am quite curious about Bendis' claim that the silent issue of Electra (the last of the series!) will contain all kinds of revelations about her past. How exactly do you do that without speech? When they say silent, do they mean no words at all, or just no direct speech? If they're still using captions, it's not that much of a challenge.

The silent month means no dialogue, no captions, no prose, no words at all other than those integrated into illustrations (i.e. signs, words on computer screens, etc). This may work in some cases, but I can see it spelling disaster in others...Consider how bad the issues by the really crappy artists will be, and that there are a lot of comics that the dialogue is the bread and butter of the series...

On the bright side, that month's issue of X-Treme X-Men may likely end up being the best issue they'll put out, purely by default.

I repeat...this will be lame, lame, lame.

[cheapshot] New X Men probably isn't going to ship that month anyway. [/cheapshot]

Which month are they going to do this? Reminds me of Marvel's Assistant Editors' Month, from waaaaaay back.

I do believe it is comics slated to ship in December. I'm pretty sure that it's one of Van Scriver's issues...

I think that Frank Quitely is one of the only comics artists whom I would enjoy an issue with his art and no words...There's been a few occasions over the past few months when I've just stared at his pages of New X-Men and Flex Mentallo in awe for a half hour or so (though not individual pages for a half hour...you know, flipping through and going "wow")

Only it's not.

Quitely's back for the final ish of the 'Germ Free Generation' arc, which, allegedly, will be out sometime in November (out of interest: why do you guys never check www.marvel.com? Have you got too much going on in your lives, or what?). Marvel might have to start meeting their deadlines if they actually intend to go ahead with this "silent month" shindig. So, December would seem like a good time; once the Xmen have finished with that Johnny Sublime twat......

I assume you've all seen the cover to 119? I posted it here ages ago. Not sure what thread it's on now. Cyclops looks vere good.

And here's the lowdown:

quote: "Germ Free Generation" -- the conclusion!

THE STORY: The U-Men launch their assault on the Xavier Institute -- where only Jean Grey remains to protect the school's innocent students! Meanwhile, Cyclops and the White Queen confront John Sublime -- from the comfort of vivisection tables! And, amid this crisis, the new Angel arrives!

And just in case you didn't believe me about the Quitely thing:

quote: New X-Men #120
Cover by Frank Quitely
Grant Morrison/Frank Quitely

I, HAPPY.
