Speculation

What's the current state of play with comics "speculation," i.e. state of the back-issues market? I know it took a dive in the early nineties (round about the time I took a holiday from buying comics, coincidence or something more sinister?) but wasn't aware that it had built itself back up - but happened to read in Comics International that certain comics I bought a few months ago have gone up in value by a good 4-8 quid. What's the score?

Well, judging from Wizard magazine, it looks like the speculation market has taken a really pathetic and laughable turn towards reengergizing itself by mimicing the stock market, ie collector's now have 'portfolios', etc. It's really sad. I hope the back issue market continues to die die die because it's such a negative factor on how the industry behaves, and how comics are percieved by normal people...
