A few interesting notes from the last issue of WIZARD

Peter Milligan is # 8 on the hot writers list. X-Force # 116 is the #1 back issue.

Grant Morrison is the #2 hottest writer (after Kevin Smith). And Frank Quitely is the # 1 hottest artist (!).

appearence in wizard is supposed to be a sign of popularity now? I though it was simply a refuge for extremely poor journalism.

That doesn't mean it's not a measure of popularity.

The Sun, The Mirror, The Mail.......

there is an important difference between popular and populist.

I'd like to point out that ever since Wizard started doing those lists, whoever, and I mean WHOEVER is writing or drawing Uncanny X-Men and X-Men always places highly, if not the top positions. It has a lot more to do with the X-Men than anything else, I think. If Lynda Barry and Herb Trimpe were drawing the X-Men, and Howard Mackie and Gary Trudeau were writing them, they'd be the most popular comics artists and writers.

The reason I wanted to point these things out is that I find it interesting that despite the major risks that New X-Men and X-Force took, they are the books that are on top of the pile now, and not XTREME X-men or whatever. Morrison is more popular than Claremont or Casey right now, and Quitely is more popular than any other artist. What happens to their popularity after they leave these titles remains to be seen. Morisson didn't make it to the top ten list with Marvel Boy, but it's still possible that given the right push whatever he does after X-Men will keep him in the lime light. Same for Quitely and Milligan.
