New Morrison Interview
quote: JL: It's interesting there definitely seems to be a contingent of people, on the bulletin boards or whatever, kind of a follower contingent . . .

GM: Yeah, and it's sad because they really want the thing to be explained, and they're so angry when I don't, and these guys… you know, I've seen the boards,I've been on there a couple of times, and I just think it's kind of sad. I mean, there are people on there who get everything I'm doing, it's quite obvious to them, and those are the people that I want to talk to, those are the guys who were in thesame space. And other people just don't grasp it, they think it's something else, who missed the point, and that's fine, but they shouldn't be looking to me to provide an explanation to their dilemma.

BAM!

Is anyone on here really looking to Grant to solve their dillemas like some kind of guru figure though? Is anyone here really still hankering for the Invisibles to be explained to them?

That's not the impression I've ever gotten from Barbelith. I had assumed Grant M was referring to the comics industry boards at large, not Barbelith specifically. On the WEF, for example, there's a large contingent who seem to need 'The Invisibles' explained to them, just don't get the various magic type stuff in particular and think it's Grant just taking the piss or something. Not wanting to sound antagonistic or anything, but y'know the sort of thick cunts I mean.

And even if GM was talking about this board, does anyone really care? Barbelith, despite taking it's name and general style from The Invisibles, really isn't a Grant Morrison fan site anymore.

Plus, he's just not as good a writer as Scott Lobdell.

I don't understand why everyone seems to have gotten so excited about this. In his last column he compares message boards with the endless chattering of the "chorozonic abyss", and that was 4 months ago..... It's pretty clear he's been feeling this way for some time.

The Grant posted exactly once to the original Barbelith board, then his PC went tits-up.

He did, however, have a longish stint taking questions at the NextPlanetOver board, which is, to put it charitably, rife with chuckleheads.

And look at some of the questions he gets at his own website, in the Digital Ink section: Keeeeee-rist...

So yeah, chilluns, rest easy: he couldn't be talking about us, lawks-a-mercy, no.

*wanders off whistling a happy tune*

Honest, ImpCon, I think he's going off about other boards. Every other board I've been to that even brings up the Invisibles (TCJ, Comicon, WEF)seems to begin with whining about how Grant is too obtuse and should spell it out for everyone, and ends with someone pointing them here, where people can figure it out for ourselves.

"I mean, there are people on there who get everything I'm doing, it's quite obvious to them, and those are the people that I want to talk to, those are the guys who were in the same space."

C'mon, show me an example of this online that doesn't start with a B and end with an Arbelith.

That, or just get me a ticket to Egypt.

Nobody's so far pointed out that the interview was carried out by our-very-own Antlerhead.

So, er, cool, man.

Fucking hell,

it is great that they have an interview posted, but why can't they put it on one page instead of 10 freaking click throughs?

Christ almighty, it is only text.

Considering further inspection of the details, the involvement of a veteran barbelite, and the fact that someone called me 'ImpCon', which is very cool, I withdraw my previous assertion.

We're all so proud of you!

It's weird, how I now have a completely different visual image of you than when you were the Johnson Family host.....

By the way, if you really want to destroy your mental image of me, go to www.king-mob.com and click on the "Introduction" section, where you can see what I actually look like.

If anyone wants a virus-free version of the interview document, you can get it here:
http://www.hungryghost.f2s.com/downloads/morrison_interview.doc

Antlerhead, did you get my e-mail about the virus n'that? I hope you don't mind. I'll take the file down if you want me to.

Now, let me get this thread straight:

-We're not the bozos he's talking about; we can't be. Can we?

-This is the only thing we choose to comment and discuss out of a 10 page interview, the question whether G thinks of "us" as the guys who "get it" or the guys who don't

Great interview, Antlerhead! Nice job.

I really don't think Grant was talking about us, *because we've always got it!*. Now, don't you all think guys like him and Millar always lurk on message boards, specially here and the WEF?

But Mister M was just modest: he really does have his own geekdom; of which some of us do take part, be it being Morrison's completists or people who see him in dreams. And I'm fine with that. I really am.

Loved the Metron part and how the interview itself almost became a debate on C.M. by the end. Great chat. I also edited it all up in one single '.doc' file (had to print it); Mail me and you got it.

well done antlerhead, I really enjoyed that . . . almost like its the last GM interview I'll ever read, feel's like I'm being pointed in that direction- less research + more first-person experience.

In other news, anybody notice the bit about not wanting credit for his books? following some postings here on barbelith I went back + re-read 'the brotherhood' #1 by 'X' + walked away convinced that it's GM. Kinda makes his point in the interview- I breezed thru it the first time + despised it- then later, suspecting, I went back + thoroughly enjoyed it. Guess I should be paying more attention.
