Miss Kittie, my parents emigrated from the UK to Canada. I'll ask them if they've any info of use.

Have a depression bypass. There's a lot of stuff that gets thrown up to get you discouraged, I think.

What's the plan?

zoom - why thank you

rothkoid - the plan is for my sweet thang, who is currently living in london, to end up in baltimore. hes put in for an inter-company transfer, but theres the worry that it wont come through. add to that neither of us are too terribly patient, and have already been waiting round about a year. tips for the legalities of the thing would be very helpful (we arent planning on marriage or any such thing), as well as potential difficulties with the moving process.

Look into the skillset that your sweetie has. If it's something IT-related (or medical, iirc), then there's a chance that the way into the country will be a bit easier since they're considered necessary or pretty employable skills. There's usually a list with particular skills being worth particular points that gets chosen from. That's one way. I don't know what else to say to speed it up - given that you're not going to get married, I don't know whether de-facto relationship application kinda stuff is going to wash with the government. Might be worth a try, though.

Sorry I've got no links to hand, but I'm sure they're around on the Dept. of Immigration's website.

Actually, I just realized that in the last lot of books I got for my store there was one called "Immigrating to the U.S." Consider it yours. Now you'll have to come and see my store while you're here. I'm not sure if it's focussed mainly on Canada-to-U.S. immigration or if it's more general. I'll have a look when I get to work. Funny coincidence, that. I'll see if I have anything else.

The other thing that occurs is does he want to become a citizen, or just a landed immigrant? And is such a thing possible in the U.S.? Make sure he knows that he will have to give up British citizenship to become and American citizen. I would think that, in trying to emigrate, it would be wise to try to convince U.S. Immigration that he really wants to be an American. In these fairly patriotic and nationalistic times, that may go a long way.
