Is anyone else reading Queen & Country? What do you think of the story so far? The art? This book has been getting pretty high praise elsewhere on the web so I went and bought the first three issues and I was sort of unimpresed. The story was OK but not great and the little details that were fucked-up kind of detract from my enjoyment of it. Not really feeling anything for any of the characters yet either, though this may be because of the art rather than the story. Its sort of unfair to the interior artist to have Tim Sale covers don't you think? Opinions?

Nope. I started reading the Whiteout trades and figured this other Rucka title probably wouldn't snap my proverbial radish, either.

Bought the first issue cos the Warren Elves Forum were all going on about it.

Zzzzzzzzzz.

Okay, bit harsh that but... the interior art really, really didn't suit the storyline, or the tone I think Rucka was aiming for. And yes, bit of a letdown after the covers. But I think Rucka has to take some of the blame though, for making me care not in the slightest about what happened next to the protagonist. Perhaps it would have helped if he'd given her a personality (which is where a better artist comes in if you're keeping dialogue to a minimum).

Pity, because the premise sounded great...

Me buying it. Me liking it. Me likes politics. Me likes spies. Me likes supposedly 'realistic' stories.
Me no likes too much 'spy babble'. Me thinks art may not be suited, but works fine. Me knows more realistic style art will replace Steve Rolston (which work me likes) next arc.
Me thinks Rucka could make the plot run faster. Me wonders if Rucka is using decompressed storytelling to 'decompress' our pockets better. It's bimonthly, you know.
But me continue buying, for me likes it.
And me will, while it's worth me money.

I'll keep buying it until it reaches a convenient point for dropping it, when I shall do just that. There's too much really good stuff out there for me to buy anything that's only marginally better than average.
