| I have to say I am super amused to read some of the threads over at the still quite new Boing Boing BBS where people are complaining about the board being dead due to problems with moderation, post quality going down, and the "old" feeling being gone from the site. It seems interesting to me especially because it seems to mirror some threads on Barbelith, even some a decade old now, with similar complaints. I'm trying to recall whether this structural pattern was something I observed in the old dial up BBS days as well, but only have a vague feeling that the might have been something similar then and there as well. Anyhow, it is as if such complaints were somehow built into the system, and people just end up enacting those roles over again in each new instance. |
