i think it kicks ass, but then again i think i'm yet to meet a milligan book i didn't like.

what did everyone else think?

and uhh, it had been a long time since i bought a marvel comic before just recently y'know, well i was just wondering... are these things fucking monthly?!!!

Yeah, they're monthly, but NEW X-MEN is late.

And I hate Milligan and Allred for making me buy another monthly title. And an "X" title at that.
I love this book. The first two issues were excellent and I'm sticking around for at least the next two. I'm interested to see how long they can do this. Hopefully Marvel will collect them in TPB format and I can stop buying the monthlies.

yup. Peter Milligan is my god. (He wrote Shade, you know.)

Suspect I may be missing a lot, though, since apart from a few X-Caliburs in the 90's and the X-Men movie (and one or two slash stories), I am completely unaware of this thing you Earthlings have called the X-Men.

But I love the art - I think these very flat colours and clear lines suit PM's writing down to the ground (cf the post-#50 issues of Shade) - and am rather pleased by the way each episode seems to be introducing a character and then killing him. Hee hee.

I have so far failed to find a copy of either of the issues to date. I suppose that means I'll be buying the trade... either that or I'll have to start doing something geeky like pre-ordering my comics or going to the shop on the day they come out.

But yes, I very much like the look of what I've seen so far. And Deva, I get the impression you're probably not missing out on much by not knowing anything about the whole X-thang.

But is this story going anywhere? the whole thing feels a bit directionless/disjointed at the moment.Just some stuff happening to some people who argue at lot and that's it really.I want to know more, get to know the charcters like we got to know axel in the first issue but we're not getting a chance.
I'll stick with it but I hope something interested happens soon.

I read sleaze's copy of the first issue.
Conclusion: it rocked.

I've been unable to find myself a copy of either issue anywhere however, and the %always helpful% comic shop employees deny all knowledge .. I mean, are they actually selling it in shops or what?

As I believe I find myself saying every time this comes up - Peter Milligan is better than Grant Morrison. Shade is better than the Invisibles. Elektra is better than...oh. Hmmm. Right.

But Shade illustrated by Mike Allred would have been excellent.

Haven't been near a comics shop for a month or two - has X-Force sold out? And are we sure it will be collected as a trade, or will MArvel change policy again

Milligans Enigma was THE comic for me, I bought it for 2.99 and it blew me away totally, reading it really was a changing experience, it made me feel things... in my belly...

X Force is enjoyable, but I have no idea where it is going which is one of the reasons I like it and don't like it because I am not sure if it is actually going anywhere.
The art is cool, but flat, it looks really unreal and two dimensional and I think Allred was chosen because his cartoony superficial style makes the gore look unrealistic and not serious.

I'll stick with it just because I have no idea whats going to happen next, I mean nearly all the team were killed in the first issue, how cool was that?

I'm starting to think Milligan's slowly building up a core of main characters (Orphan, U Go Girl, Anarchist, The Chief), and the rest? They're just cannon fodder.

Can't wait to see Edie's team.

And maybe that kid'll join.

Yeah, but they sell out usually within the first or second week, and Marvel no longer does second printings or extra shipments. So once it is sold out, it is sold out forever, and you have to either scour the world for an extra, buy one at an inflated price, steal your friend's copy, or wait for the trade paperback.

You know what my favorite Milligan comic was? The Eaters. That one was a really good dark comedy one shot.

I really loved Shade too...especially the issues that Richard "My favorite comic artist" Case did...

Milligan and Allred did a 7 page Shade story together in the comic Vertigo Jam.

You know, I'd completely forgotten that one. My geek-fu is weak.

I have to say I'm enjoying X Force more than new x men.
Force is doing something I haven't read before where Grant is writing characters I've hated for years and It's going to take some getting over.

U Go Girl may be my new fav comic character but only cause Gin Genine is dead.

The Hemingway/Joyce storyline in Shade actually made my friend drop comics altogether (after ripping the comics apart). And I also think it was extremely bad. But Invisible's real advantage is this: it has a meaning. Shade is just rambling.

IMHO

The new X Force is classic.

There's a homosexual kiss in it!

And then the homosexual character gets killed.

But still. I have never seen that in a Marvel comic.

I don't know which i like more but...

Shade had just as much meaning as Doom Patrol, hell they ended almost exactly the same!
