Ron Garney on Uncanny.... (yay?)

From Comicon

quote:While readers may have to wait a week to a few to learn who will be talking over the artistic reins of the Fantastic Four when Carlos Pacheco makes his exit, Marvel didn't waste any time finding a replacement for Uncanny X-Men penciler Ian Churchill. Churchill appears to be leaving with issue #396, because according to X-editor Mark Powers, "Ian just didn't feel he and Joe [Casey] were the right combination, and he wasn't enjoying the assignment the way he wanted to."
Newsarama has confirmed former Captain America and Hulk penciler Ron Garney has just agreed to take the assignment

also:

quote: "Ethan Van Sciver is the regular 'third' artist," said Powers. "At the moment, he's pitching in on New X-Men, and we'll be utilizing him on Uncanny as well. He's also got another very cool X-project in development right now."

Cruising the WEF I got more evidence that Churchill indeed was not happy with the job. Now follow me: the guy was pencilling one of the 10 or 5 most lucrative books in the market. Something must have been really ugly between him and Casey (or was almost going to) for Churchill to drop such a gig.

Or maybe it's just me. Raney is good (way more skilled than the Churchill) but trading one name for the other doesn't make things that better for those reading Uncanny.

I was wondering who would come in next to pencil x-men . . . Garney kept comming to mind.

must be psychic

Um . .he's OKay though not quite the "best" choice in my opinion.

Who would you choose to pencil Uncanny X-men???

as for why churchill dropped the gig . .it was written all over the preproduction notes in Wizard. He kept making suggestions that were rejected . . .lightsabre for Nightcrawler a Gun that fires Plasma Halos for Archangle. Is it a wonder they where rejected . . .

I don't know, I've seen Raney's stuff, and it's so damn erratic...sometimes his stuff looks nice, others it is total dross. Like that issue of X-Men he did just before Grant and Casey took over...it was so poorly done, it was terrible.

I'm not pleased with the choice of Garney...I don't like his style. Not that I really like Churchill too much, but it suited X-Men better. Garney reminds me of John Romita Jr., and I thought Romita Jr.'s stuff always looked like a bad match during both of his runs in the 80s and 90s.

I agree....something must have been awkward and wrong between Casey and Churchill. I don't really think they were appropriately matched...they have such different vibes.

I wonder how long Casey will last now...
