"I don't mind dying, I'll gladly do that, but not right now, I need to clean the house first"

Astrid Lindgren, the creator of Pippi Longstocking, died today.

Was it just me, or did anyone else thing the Pippi books rocked like bastards?

[edited because getting someone's name right is always important.]

homage a pippi. the swedish films of the books were quite amusing, in a badly dubbed sort of way, the American ones were--no schock--schlock. loved her socks her freckles and her father being gone all the time.

ohoh didn't anyone read My brother, the Lionheart? maybe the title was different in English. oppression vs. freedom fighters in the land of the dead. my most favourite book by her. and i've read lots by her.

but did have a huge crush on her too as a kid. but then on Jonathan Lionheart, too :-)

did the Elvis books by Maria Gripe come out in english? Elvis Karlsson and Just Elvis, there were some more too. also *very* good. god i love good children's books.
