It's called 'My Flamboyant Grandson'. http://www.newyorker.com/FICTION/?020128fi_fiction

If you've never read him before, check it out. Or get his books, 'Civilwarland in Bad Decline' and 'Pastoralia'. Very good stuff. Hilarious and sad.

Aw, man, it's not even like it's that long of a story.

I read it, and I'm not too impressed, although I loved both of his collections ("civilwarland" more so). When I first read his stuff, I thought he was a genius, but he seems to be banging his critique of consumer culture into the ground now. The reason I liked Civilwarland was, in addition to the aforementioned critique, which you can find in any number of young white male authors (indeed, that's all they write about), he also conveyed a deep sense of character and empathy for his characters and their situations, which most contemporary authors have a hard time with. But if I read one more short story by him or anyone else equating modern society with a theme park cut Jean Baudrillard to little pieces and stuff him down the author's throat.
