Just caught Utopia. Is it me or is this about Barbelith?

Yeah it felt like that to me as well. I did wonder to myself whether the writer might have spent some time on the board...

It felt like that to a lot of us - we had a big chat about it on coughfacebookcough.

Omigod I can't believe you just named that place on the board. Don't worry old girl, she didn't mean it (pats Barbelith gently).

I was so taken with Utopia it led me to pop back here, after a very long absence.

Glad to see signs of life here.

I enjoyed the look of the thing. It's use of colour and camera made it look comic like, without ever emulating the surface of a comic. I was pleased to see and hear many tropes recalling favourite comic things, but it skilfully avoided many of the horrors that are usually found in comic based TV.

I've not finished my viewing of series one yet, but am already committed to a second look, which may well lure me into detailed geekery, which I hope to share here.

Is there much thought about this, here? I quarter hoped there might have been an embracing as there was with Donny Darko.

I think honestly, there's so little traffic here at the moment that it would be difficult for 'us' to adopt anything!

It's a pity. The programme deserves some good annotation, and I'm not sure I'm the person to make them. I was sure this was the right place for them however.

Finished first watch tonight. First response. It's all about fertility. Obviously the core conspiracy is, but most of the key relationships are parent child ones, and these are used horribly manipulatively. A quick list;
Wilson, his father used to control him.
Lovely fucked up Arbi is entirely undermined by revelations of his own parenting, as is later Jessica Hyde who is completely undone by her blood inheritance.

Both of the children are manipulated by threats to their parents, and the Scottish civil servant chap is managed through his fertility.

Only Ian is not involved in this game.

In its texture of betrayal and wavering boundaries of loyalties and in how the 'goodies' become increasingly like the 'baddies' it is very like the core text of this site, but in the this issue it is entirely different.

A final thought. A plastic bag of medicine containers would surely float.
