If you, like me, spend most of the day working at a job which does not hold up in the mental stimulation department, this place, http://www.sacred-texts.com/map.htm can be very useful.

I've been on a bit of a PDF binge recently, mostly hmagjykk texts from the above site. I've also been reading out-of-copyright novels. Lots of classic works are in the public domain; literatureproject.com has a metric shedload.

Found this site very recently: www.free-books.org. I haven't had a thorough dig around yet but they seem to have a lot of material. Their formatting is supposed to accelerate learning; it takes a bit of getting used to, though.

I know that a lot of people nowadays self-publish online but there's a poor signal-to-unreadble-crap ratio. I'd be interested to hear of anything that broke this particular mold.

Any other recommendations?

Jimmy beat me to it, but I'll second Project Gutenberg. There's also an audiobook section.

The complete works of HP Lovecraft

...there was a more legible site, but I can't seem to find it.
