Living in Brighton

So I'll be moving to Brighton in September to study at the University of Sussex (Sexual Dissidence in Literature and Culture, theorybitch ahoy). I'll be looking for a house and any reccomendations and suggestions on the whats and hows of that process would be more than welcome! But I'd also like to know if anyone (still) here lives there or knows it well, what they think of the city: what kind of artistic and political scenes it has, good places for a geek queer to check out, nice projects of any kind...

Wikipedia doesn't get you far in these matters, as you can imagine.

Anyone?

The University has a small ads section in Student Direct, to which you should shortly be given access. Hopefully that'll help you find a room.

Also I believe there to be a dedicated Student Lets estate agent on the Lewes Rd, though I've never used it.

For political stuff, and geeky queer stuff, go down to the Cowley Club on London Rd during the day between Tuesdays and Fridays. Its a anarchist bookshop/cafe/music venue. You'll find infinite leaflets for the things you're looking for.

Also you can't spit without hitting musicians or artists.

City is epic.

I think that there are a few other 'lithers floating around the city (I'm pretty sure Quantum is here) but the place to ask now is LiminalNation.
