I haven't used it, but I've heard some success stories. Of course, for every success story there's probably a lot of people who had no success at all. How are you doing?

it's been going alright, though I only have 19 days left, so I'm beginning to get nervous

I'm thinking I need to do a better job at finding people who might be interested and letting them know about it (any suggestions for that let me know!). but at the same time, I don't want to be spammy or annoying. so far I've mostly just been hitting up friends and relatives.

That makes sense, I think it's tough to walk that line, and if you're not already established, most people aren't going to have an inherent interest in supporting the project. But, it looks like a cool idea, and I hope you can put the money together at some point.

As an alternative, you might consider indiegogo.com as their model is not all funded or nothing, instead you get what funding people have pledged even if the total goal is not reached. Or, you might consider patreon.com as, I think, a much better option that provides ongoing patronage relationships instead of temporary and fleeting ones.
