can better informed 'lithers tell me why the concept of a mosque somewhere near 'ground zero' is such a contentious issue? don't people, even victims and their relatives, realise that it wasn't actually a religion that perpetrated the twin towers calamity, rather insane radical lunatics, who are not endorsed by mainstream islam?

There's an excellent article by Charlie Brooker here. If he's got his facts straight, the so-called ground-zero mosque isn't a mosque and isn't all that near ground-zero.

DM, a number of the people whose lives were finished (by, let's face it, a set of silly adolescents) on 9/11 were of Islamic origin.

Yeah, I know! Stupid isn't it? The argument I pointed out above was purposedly ironic and stupid, to highlight the humongous stupidity of the whole thing. (ironic, but not funny, I should add).

As for the muslim prayer room on the article linked by Tsuga, I didn't know about it. But it only makes the whole thing even more stupid.

None of what I said is meant to diminish the tragedy of 9-11. Only to state that it was tragical AND stupid...
