Philip Roth

I've been trying to catch up on some of the US Lit. I've been missing, most notably Philip Roth.

Other than Portnoy's Complaint, which I've only heard about for its notoriety, what novel would be a good introduction to Roth? I don't intend to read his back catalogue, and the more recent the work, the better.

However, I'm open to suggestions.

Anyone?

my thanks

Squiby, me old mate ...

Ignore the early stuff; unusually, Roth seems to have come into his own in later years, thus; 'I Married A Communist' and
'American Pastoral'. Both of these are bloody brilliant novels ... better, some might say, than sucking down hard on a cold tube of fosters, in the blood red sun.

started American Pastoral this morning. Too early to tell how I'm going to enjoy this. It does remind me of Mordecai Richler, but maybe that's just the Jewishness of it all.
