Studying Japanese at Uni (UK)

I'm looking for opinions to help me decide what to do :/

I want to take a BA Japanese and Management, I was considering the University of Leeds due to its proximity.
I think being in a university program will help me to focus on the language as opposed to taking classes elsewhere and doing my Uni degree in just Management or something related.

I'm not that interested in getting a degree that says Japanese on it I just want to learn how to speak it to an intermediate level.

I am from the united states so I don't know what my options really are however from the research I have done Leeds and other school require a year abroad, however I won't have the funds to do something like that while paying an international tuition fee and I will also have just been married the year before and I don't want to leave for a year. I was wondering if anyone knows if the "year abroad" is required for Leeds or any other universities? Or if anyone has any advice or knowledge that could be useful please post!

I thought that it would only be one semester abroad and it would be in the final year. I think I could afford one semester abroad. and would feel better about leaving my husband for that period of time.

My plan if this helps with the advice you are going to give me is to go to japan to teach English for a couple years after I graduate to "cement" in my ability to speak Japanese. During these two years my husband and I will save up and he will work part time online during those years so that he can come with me to Japan.

All you're advice is very appreciated for a confused undergrad student!

I'm not in the UK, so I've no idea. In case no one else here knows, or cares, or even reads this, I'll advise you to e-mail or ring the Universities. Find the contact details for the course coordinator in Leeds, and ask them about the year/semester abroad. They'll probably also know how things work in other university's courses.

If they wanted to send you abroad for a whole year, maybe you could spend your last year in Japan?

Not be so negative, RC.

That said, anti christ, your plan, while it sounds good, is possibly ill-advised.

Japan is a bit boring, apparently; a couple of weeks hitting the down-town sex bars in Tokyo, and that's your lot, I've heard.
