Well, I'm thinking of starting a blog, to collect my scribblings about film and life really as without something a bit more solid they tend to disappear into hundreds of forgotten refill pads and notebooks.
What are the best blog servers? Any recommendations?
And what're your experiences of blogging? How do I avoid the pitfalls of choosing a terrible name and how do I keep myself committed to updating it?
according to recent research i heard about on the radio the other morning, blogging is on the out and txt-stuff and f/b status posts is the new thing. the story finished with a quote from a young woman who suggested no one likes to read too much 'cause that's so boring.
I really dig Wordpress, I use it as a blogging platform for Plutonica.net, and as a CSM (content management system) for a static site, SpiralNature.com. It works great for either purpose.
Wordpress has a fabulous community of coders behind it who create extensions (here called plugins) for just about every functionality you could possibly want.
If you're familiar with HTML and CSS, it's really easy to customize your theme (the way your blog looks and feels), and if you're not, there are hundreds if not thousands of themes available to download and install.
Ah, well, tumblr is a blog, or rather tumblr is a blogging platform. And a very good one- if you need more than a Twitter stream and less than a full-on blog, Tumblr has very few downsides, I think, for as long as it's funded.
