First episode: very bad.

Simplistic, predictable writing. Too many reveals. No character development.

Feh.

Waiting to see it---i.e. download it. I remember loving the original but am interested to see the remake.

The original mini-series opened up with an homage to "Freedom Fighters", portrayed at the time by Afghani(?) Mujaheddin standing up to and fighting the Russians...

Something tells me this new series (which I have no interest in watching) downplays that aspect... Am I right?

Kali - I rented the originals a few years back because I adored the series when it came out and I wish I stuck with my fond memories...

Eek!: I'd answer your question, but it'd be a Spoiler.

The biggest question that went through my mind while watching -- apart from Who wrote this crap? -- was, "Will Morena Baccarin give herself an aneurysm from playing the one-note-enigmatic-smile character every episode?"

Damn you Damon Lindelof & Carlton Cuse for killing off Juliet!

Yeah, not very good at all. It's like they decided that everyone in the audience already had seen alien invasion stories, so they just skipped over that, potentially very interesting, part and just moved through the plot seemingly at random. What was in the first episode could easily have been four or five episodes of meaningful character development, but was instead compressed into what felt like a lengthy "Previously on V" segment.
