Slow Chocolate Autopsy - cheap!

The Return Of Rothkoid

In case you (like I) haven't read it: the Soho Bookshop in Soho, London is selling copies of Slow Chocolate Autopsy for £1.99. Snapped one up this evening, there looked to be about twenty or so there. You can see them in the window from the laneway that joins the end of Berwick St.

That said, anyone got any ruminations on the book? Recommendations? Spoiler warnings essential, of course...

Slightly unconventionalyl, I enjoyed the bit swhere he actually lets go more than a lot of the stuff in more "canonical" Sinclair. I do kind of wish he had avoided falling into the Zarate trap of having an artist around to mediate his vision, as McKean always seems to have been much better at implying depth than actually delivering it. Still, good to see more of the Falconer and Neverwhere fans should probably get it. Fuck, at 1.99 everyone who can get to it should have a crack at it. That's less than 10 marlie lights...

It was the book that first got me into Sinclair. Who I love. Read it. Read it NOW! Then, if they've got any copies left, buy 'em for your mates. 'Cos I'll probably be doing so. cheers for the tip.

Forgive my ignorance, but apart from having the best title ever, what is this - a comic, graphic novel or a text one?

Obviously with a name like that I'll have to have it on my bookshelf whatever.

Without spoilage... it's a book of (linked) short stories, with art by Dave McKean... a couple of the stories being in comic form.
It's very London-centric (as Sinclair always is. Apart from his new one, though that does have some great London bits in.)

Who's up for trading? Bearing in mind that I'm pissed, I might try to make a slight detour between Barbeboozers tomorrow and pick up a couple of copies. Who's got the goods to swap?

I'm currently reading my copy - tis pretty good, y'know. A bit overwrought, but - nobbad at all.

I've got a couple of copies - PM away!

Maybe a book-swap would be cool?

Bookswap good idea; secondhand and bargains only though, I think. Or some kind of 'keep an eye out for this book without which my life will be incomplete' thing. But probably best done on an ad hoc basis for the time being.

More Barbegoodness: I was there tonight, and there were a couple of copies of Sinclair's Lights Out For The Territory for sale for a fiver. A bit dented, and there's two left, now that I've bought one...

Not sure if this is a good or bad thing to say, but... (here goes, deep breath)
Lights Out For The Territory is actually better than Slow Chocolate Autopsy. (Not by much, but definitely the winner in that race.)

Actually, now I come to think of it, "Landor's Tower"'s better than both of 'em. Possibly. "Lights Out"'s probably the one to buy, though- it's a real "keep going back to it" book, and has a fucking hilarious chapter on Jeffrey Archer in it.
