The ruling overturns a 148-year-old colonial law which describes a same-sex relationship as an "unnatural offence".

Homosexual acts were punishable by a 10-year prison sentence.

Hurray! One step closer to a sensible world!

Only one step closer to a sensible India, a petition to reject the same law 5 years ago was rejected by the (then populist BJP, I think) government. IME the idea of homosexuality as wong/unnatural seems to be still quite deeply ingrained in Indian culture today, it might take a generation before this makes a real difference to equality. But definitely a good step forward.
