The trailer for the movie 2012 has just been released. Scary isn't it? What do you think? Worth seeing? I know I want to see this..

It´s Roland doing what he does best, slathering the screen with CG images of over the top destruction. so this time it´s not a space ship, it´s an aircraft carrier on top of the white house. And instead of people running away from flames or ice, it´s planes running away from crumbling cities. Sure, people like these kind of movies, we had knowing recently for example.

But it´s more of the same. It looks like a sampler clip of various movies of this kind. There´s no originality to it. Also the recent Transformers 2 clip had similar images of fire raining from the sky and full screen complete destruction of an aircraft carrier.

My money would be on Transformers 2 giving more popcorn world annihilation fun than RE´s movie, since Bay doesn´t beat around the bush. He just wants a spectacle. Emmerich repeatedly abuses the fig leaf of global awareness (climate change in that NY covered in ice movie for example).

I will go see it just because it has John Cusack in it, as I have some sort of genetic imperative to see whatever he is in. Much to my regret, this included Con Air, but one does what one must.

You know, since I saw the error of my ways and resolved only to say nice things, I've realised some stuff. For example, it's really easy only to say nice things about things that make you feel nice. But then, sometimes saying nasty things makes you feel nice, too. Especially if your friends all say nasty things as well. Sometimes if you want to be a positive person, you have to be positive even when it's not about someone you like.

So, Roland Emmerich. He may not have got the science right, but didn't he do a lot to make people aware of the threat of climate change. Wasn't it brave of him to do that at a time when it was being denied by his country's establishment? Might he not have played a part in helping to get Barack Obama elected?

Thank you, Roland Emmerich, for your part in saving the world. I hope all your detractors do as much one day.

Ah, the dude knits as well? That's awesome. He must love his adopted (quite right, misty) home.

Other awesome things about Roland Emmerich. He helped to fund Outfest's legacy project, which helps to preserve gay and lesbian film history. He contributed to The One Second Film, which raised money for education for women in the developing world. And he campaigns for stunt artists to be recognised by the Academy.

What a guy!
