Brubaker's Angel of Death

This Sunday

So, we're on episode two now, of Ed Brubaker's Angel of Death, with the promise of an episode every weekday until it's done. I'm not sold on it, but I like that the episodes are fairy short, move at a nice clip, and are basically unashamedly by the numbers. Competent television with some occasional visual flair. Unlike so many comic-book-y movie/tv things, I like the paneling here. It opens visual/static pacing up inside the temporal pacing in an interesting way. Shoulders seem unusually prominent, which I like but isn't really a major point for anyone else, I'm sure.

Who else is watching? Anybody?

I'm watching now. Brubaker + Bell = Worth a look. It's completely living in the shadow of it's obvious influence: Kill Bill (I doubt it's happenstance that Bell is the star). But that's ok, cause I love Kill Bill.

I agree, I like that they are fairly short and concise. How many episodes are there suppose to be?

Aha! I am Klarion

I am sorry, but these mini-web episodes in general just don't work for me. Like motion comics they seem like shuffling zombie creatures, abortions of the nether realm of new media.

That said, the episodes posted so far have interested me enough that will rent the DVD when it comes out.

thought first episode was interesting enough but too cliche.

second was maybe necessary development but too slow.

in the third the story started to get interesting.

the fourth episode had (SPOILERS) the toughest fight scene I've ever seen. long like They Live, tough like UFC, cool like John Woo, and in a grimy bathroom that reminded me of the sweet fight in the Warriors.

some of the comicky screen wipes are getting cooler too.

to be honest, unless it was totally unwatchable I'd be happy just that this stuff is happening. the whole idea that people are trying to develop webisodes is exciting.
