Music suggestions for walking down the aisle.

MattS and I are having a hard time deciding what should be played when I come down the aisle in a pretty pretty dress.

I, of course, wanted the Doctor Who theme but was quickly let down.

Anyway, I'm thinking of something between contemporary and classy. Help me?

Theme from Godzilla and the Invasion Of The Astro-Monsters. It works for all social occasions.

We used Nouvelle Vague's cover of I'll Melt With You... Very pretty song and nice sentiment.

(Apologied for the photo-montage accompanying the music: It was the first version of the song I found...)

I really like Helen Love - Debbie loves Joey. Great for the occasion.

So far, I could only think of the Denver and the Rocky theme. You probably won´t use them, but who knows!

In my dream wedding, I envision the Imperial March to accompany me down the aisle. Though I don't know how pleased my mom would be with that choice.

I bought that up too but it was also shouted down.

I'm thinking maybe some Nina Simone.

It totally depends on the kind of wedding. We had a friend (from Atlanta, of all places) who's a professional guitarist play for us. He just sort of noodled in a jazzy way ("Voodoo Chile" worked its way in there at one point) until the bride showed up, at which point... well, my mind goes kind of blank, but if I had to guess, I'd say "Here Comes the Bride" as you might have heard from somewhere between Les Paul and Django Reinhardt. It suited the environment (steps of a historic school building remade into a social hall, outside-ish, casual-but-not-loose).

One of my favorite wedding intros had the groom & attendants marching in to the theme from Shaft. (Loose. Outdoors. Aimed for smiles.)

A baroque quartet from the local art school might be better if that's the atmosphere you're aiming at.

I sang an old hymn ("Fill our way every day with love") in an old church in Minneapolis with a choir made of other guests for another wedding. There was contra-dancing at the reception, and locally grown flowers. I liked singing with other guests, especially since it wasn't too challenging a melody.

Although I know one gets more chances at getting married these days, I can't help but feel it's best not to have too many of your wedding's elements dating too quickly. A bit of Mendelssohn worked very well for Mrs. Haus.

Then again, you can balance that out with a bit of creativity in the presentation . Perhaps for the last time on Barbelith, please enjoy the wedding of Jim Balent and Holly Golightly.

Ah, young love.

Kali, if you're thinking of Nina Simone, I'd recommend either "Here Comes The Sun" or "Feelin' Good." Both have a nice upbeat vibe while being probably slow enough for a march down the aisle.

Whatever you do, don't go with "Strange Fruit," beautiful as it is.

When you mentioned Nina Simone, I imediately though of "Feelin' Good" as well. It's got a lovely sentiment and is super-sexy with a great rythm.

We were going to use the Space March theme from Moonraker, but the bloody CD wouldn't work.

Good thing we did it in a registry office and didn't bother with the whole procession bit. The "aisle" was all of 10 feet.

I concur with Mr Hois. But use this version.

We're talking a really small wedding---the ceremony itself is family only---in a fairly small gazebo, so I am not looking for anything, I dunno, too stodgy. As for Nina Simone, I was thinking more along the lines of "My Baby Just Cares For Me."

Or, even though it's played out, maybe Etta James' "At Last"?

The victory march is meant for a walk down the aisle, not the imperial march. Get your John Williams right!

Moon River. Andy Williams.

I'd go with "Like a Virgin", by Madonna

Theme from Godzilla and the Invasion Of The Astro-Monsters

i am not a monster...

i'd second nina's 'feelin' good' - but you could also consider the stones' 'let's spend the night together'..?

or more seriously, miles davis' 'all blues'?

The theme from Twin Peaks! Try and get the 'love theme' version off the soundtrack CD. It may also help if you instruct the officiate to create long, uncomfortable silences during the ceremony.

Jazz contributions:

Louis Armstrong: A Kiss to Build a Dream On
Helen Merril: You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To

Or a mashup thereof.

'Failure' by The Swans.

As it grinds to its hellish end (in a church, I'm guessing the six or so minutes would feel like hours) you'll be delighted just to be alive, never mind about to embark on married life.

I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say it would make the day unforgettable. Which is the idea, right?

I've always had a certain song picked out for my wedding...
