Seeing as there was an XBOX thread I thought I'd start one for those of us with PS3s.

So to kick things off - Bandini1

I really hate the way that the PS3 handles its friends functionality. Shoved right at the end of the XMB, like the afterthought that it so clearly was, it takes an absolute age to load friends' profiles. Hell, it takes an absolute age to load your own.

And Trophies. Y'know, they're a good idea in principle - I like how they work slightly differently from the 360's Achievements, like an RPG leveling system. But, again, in practice they're rubbish because there's no way of comparing your own to those of your friends without having to load their profile. And only one at a time, at that.

Not loving the friends experience on PS3. Add into this the lack of a pack-in headset, the lack of an integrated chat system (well, I suppose it might be there, but I haven't found it yet)... the general lack of effort on Sony's part, basically.

To say nothing of Home. Fuck me, how awful is Home? I keep meaning to return to the relevant thread here to lay into it properly, but it's too depressing to think about.

I've also thought about posting at length about how terrible Home is but I don't think it's even worth typing about. It's just truly dreadful.
Despite my interest in Barbelith I really don't like 'social networking' sites (I've never had a Facebook, Myspace etc account)so the mess of Home and the poor management of the friends thing doesn't really bother me that much. But I do want it to be easy to play games with mates online.
This seems to be handled differently game to game and works better for some.

I'm quite upset that us in the UK still don't have Street Fighter II Turbo HD as I think that looks like a great game for playing online and also one for chatting whilst playing.
I remember playing with so many random people when I was a kid and playing SFII in the arcade. It'd be nice to experience that again but in a different way.

I'm AutomaticDJ.

I probably should try and get some friends on this, but my hatred of the general gaming public precludes me from joining any public games.

Anyone want a nice game of GTA4 sometime?

Added.

GTAIV sounds good. Still surprised they managed to pull an online version of GTA out of the bag so successfully.

Contemplating getting SFIV. Anyone else getting it?

OK, Fallout 3 has been sucking up my time lately like some kind of temporal hoover. "3 hours... gone? But.. where?"

How about the new Resident Evil 5 demo? It's got online co-op, and from what I've played is pretty intense.

Yeah Fallout 3 has eaten a lot of my time. It seems to be a bit like a good epic novel you can't put down. I keep getting home from work and thinking, 'oh, I'll just play this for an hour or so' and suddenly it's two in the morning.

I played the demo of Resident Evil 5 and really didn't like it. I didn't like the way the third person viewpoint worked and I thought the controls were truly horrible.
I'm not sure if the demo is a work in progress and improvements are going to be made but based on the demo I wouldn't go anywhere near the game.

I played the demo of Killzone 2 the same day and was a lot more impressed with that.

You are the second person I've spoken to today who's said that about those two demos.

Do you, by any chance, come from a PC gaming background? That was his reasoning, although it seems a bit weak...

Has there been anything broken in the move from RE4 to 5? Aside from removing the Briefcase Pause, which seems quite breaky to me...

I can't really comment too much on the leap (?) from RE4 to RE5 as I haven't really played either much at all.

I don't really come at it from a PC POV but I can maybe see what he means. If you had a mouse though the main character would still move painfully slowly.
You seem to have the option between turning really slowly or a button that spins you round. No other game seems to have that spin round button because you shouldn't need it.
In just ten minutes I was screaming at the game - "turn you twat! turn! turn!"
Resident Evil should be tense because of the atmosphere and the fear within the game that a zombie was gonna get you from round a corner or you'd run out of bullets at a crucial moment.

In the demo there didn't seem much atmosphere, there were loads of bullets, there were loads of Zombies (kind of cool - bit like left for dead) and the tension came out of the frustration of the game play.

I also thought the co-op AI was a bit lame.

Yeah.. also the notion of an overly muscled American tramping through an African village shooting frenzied black villagers seems a little.....

...politically iffy.

But maybe the whole thing comes alive in online multiplayer. Who knows.

I'm also, unsurprisingly, in the "I can give a toss about Home" camp as well. Sony should have just focused more making trophy / friend viewing and integration better, as E Randy suggested.

So when are you guys across the pond getting Super Street Fighter II HD Remix? I picked it up, but haven't been able to dedicate myself to it at all. As soon as I pick up SFIV and a Mad Catz Arcade stick (looks like the regular version should do), I'll be ready to throw down. Take it easy on me, I am a bit rusty.

This is a topic for a totally different thread, but anyone "play" Flower yet? Just lovely.

Yeah, it's really nice. It's a bit of a shame that it's not a little more game-y - I appreciate the reasons why it's not, but elements of score or time challenge could have been added into an unlockable mode - and I find the forced-progression sections a bit frustrating (because they're at odds with the more relaxed play of the majority of the game), but those are my only complaints. If there's one area where the PS3 does have superiority over the 360, it's in providing this kind of original, inventive downloadable content.

As far as SFIV goes, any games that are multiformat I'm getting on the 360, I'm afraid.

Is anyone playing Killzone 2? I'd like a few people to team up with if anyone's interested.

If anyone is playing, what do you think of the way they've locked away all of the class based play behind the ranking system? I've not got very far into it but I'm worried that the fact that classes are gradually added as you rank might mean that they're not balanced in the way that they would be in most games. Has anyone reached a reasonably high rank yet?
