Which post-apocalypse or end-of-world story/book/film best sums up the current state of Barbelith?

Inspired by some ruined city imagery used by Freektemple in another thread, I have been musing....

I see Haus or Randy as kinda like Charlton Heston in The Omega Man. But then that would make all of the rest of us vampire-critters, so I'm not sure about that.

Some might say Day of the Triffids, with blindness as a metaphor might be apt, given the loss of the insights the board used to be capable of.

I feel a bit like the guy from A Quiet Earth sometimes when there are so few people here it's like I can do anything and no one will care. Permanent, stunning, silence...

But then maybe there's an element of Mad Max 3 rebuilding happening? In which case, who will be our Aunty Entity? And what is the pigshit which will fuel the new city?

Help me find the right imagery folks...

I've avoided Neon threads on the Barb for years and there we have the ending I guess. Nice.

We are the post-zombie guys roaming around and shooting at people that shout at us from houses or vice versa?

Um, aren't we Brazil, with its slapstick & convoluted administrative impotence? Also, the oddly sexy young Michael Palin?

Why does that sound like my entire life?

Oops.

Sorry for spoiling Evangelion, but if it's any consolation, that's not half of what happens.

I´m not very knowledgeable concerning anime. Thanks to Barbelith, I saw and liked FLCL. So how likely is it, that I would also enjoy Evangelion?

A dog and his boy.

We are all Blood (telephathic intellectual dog) and Vic (18 year old sex-obsessed popcorn eater), whilst the rest of the world are the slightly unfortunate Quilla:

"Well, I'd certainly say she had marvelous judgment, Albert (Vic), if not particularly good taste."

well, I guess the trolls are the zombie-guys, with Haus and Randy shouting from their houses, determined to destroy them and getting driven slightly nuts by the whole exercise! I'm not sure that the rest of us posters have analogous characters in that film, so it doesn't quite work.

I'm sorry but that spoiling incident above is still making me laugh days after the event. I don't mind that the thing's been spoiled for me, it's firkin hysterical, especially the way the warnings all come after the actual spoiler! Honestly, you guys kill me.

I guess that really is what I get for snoozing but I was going to watch it soon, I've got it all ready to go and the movies. Not really in the mood now.

Not a book or film, but this song just won't leave my head when I log on here.

Hello one and all
Was it you I used to know
Can't you hear me call
On this old ham radio
All I got to say
I'm alive and feeling fine
If you come my way
You can share my poison wine

No marigolds in the promised land
There's a hole in the ground where they used to grow
Any man left on the Rio Grande
Is the king of the world as far as I know

I won't take your bread
I don't need no helping hand
I can't be no savage
I can't be no highwayman
Show me where you are
You and I will spend this day
Driving in my car
Through the ruins of Santa Fe

No marigolds in the promised land
There's a hole in the ground where they used to grow
Any man left on the Rio Grande
Is the king of the world as far as I know

I'm reading last year's papers
Although I don't know why
Assassins, cons, and rapers
Might as well die

If you come around
No more pain and no regrets
Watch the sun go brown
Smoking cobalt cigarettes
There's no need to hide
Taking things the easy way
If I stay inside
I might live til Saturday

No marigolds in the promised land
There's a hole in the ground where they used to grow
Any man left on the Rio Grande
Is the king of the world as far as I know
