I Need A Film Job In Europe!

This current economic sitch really sucks doesn't it? Things here over in North America aren't too merry this holiday season, I must say.

Since I have a British passport, I'm wondering how things are looking over in London Town. Are any of you Barbelith types involved in the European film industry? I've been doing a lot of extra work here in Vancouver over the past year and have got ton of experience in addition to having some really great experiences. If anyone is in the loop as to anything that would warrant me going overseas for month or maybe more, I would be eternally in your debt.

My loose resume thus far:

Acting: Battlestar Galactica (episode coming up in early 09!)
Vancouver Film Fest Ad

Extra work: Watchmen, The Day The Earth Stood Still, 2012, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Atlantis, Traveling, Reaper, Supernatural, many shitty sitcoms that will go unnamed.

Uncredited stunt: Battlestar Galactica, 2012,

Skills: Black Belt in Shotokan Karate, intermediate skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, skimboarding. I also sang and played in a punk band around town for many years.

Ok, who can point me in the direction of Guy Ritchie's house?

Can you do porn?

Yes, but only if it's an X-rated spoof of Coronation Street.

Right, I'll keep my ear to the ground.

Seriously, your question is reasonable, but seems majorly optimistic in the light of all the actors I know who work in lousy jobs most of the time and fight like hell to get occasional acting work. And that was before the recession. So... I wouldn't hold your breath. I suppose it might be easier to come here and get a lousy job and then build up contacts, seems to be what they did. But it would be risky, I'd've thought.

Corporate role play's apparently a good racket to get into (it pays about £100 a day and the work seems to be fairly regular) but pretty clearly, it's not an end in itself for most people.

Ok, so it seems that the industry is just as intense over there as it is over here, so we'll be sticking around rainy old Vancouver instead of going to rainy old England.

Bill, thanks for the info, as well as for the creative spark to start a porn series based on long running British television.

Stallion, I've worked with pretty much the entire cast, but since the majority of it was extra work, I didn't meet them personally. I did meet James Calais very briefly however, who seemed like a pretty good guy.

Wherein, from what I hear, acting skills come in handy these days, heh.

Maybe my friends' cases shouldn't put anyone off pursuing their dream of being a successful London actor. It is always possible they are unique in that they are a buncha loosers. ;>
