Or, for full Lovecraftian effect:
"Diabolic Esquimaux."

Somehow *much* more sinister...

I'd also highly recommend some of the work being put out by Pagan Publishing.

There's the excellent vaguely RPG related Delta Green books (Two excellent anthologies: Alien Intelligence and Dark Theatres. And one novel: Rules of Engagement.) It's Cuthulu Mythos transplanted into the 90's and seen through the eyes of the anti-Mythos "Delta Green" ,a twist on the classic government conspiracy.

i like that necronomicon movie with the seabeastie in the first section....the best story i've read from the mythos was actually by colin wilson, a man who is usally about as cool as volcanoed vindaloo...tale had all sorts of goings on with fucked up welsh inbreds like rizla causing earthquakes and doing massacres and shit...whole communities disappearing overnight kinda thing...arisings of lloigor['english' in welsh i think]/old ones crossover used to such kilroy-silky effect in zenithSHARE OR SHAFT!?!

Has anyone else heard? Wizards of the Coast are releasing a D20 based Cthulhu RPG called "Call of Cthulhu". And Chaosium are releasing a supplement for it. Have Chaosium given up on their game? Say it isn't so!

Zoom.

lloigor or a word very like it means lost lands in old Briton (Welsh?) and refers to lands lost to Saxon invaders. Wether or not there is a connection to that and the time traveling, body nickers of Lovecrafts fevered imagination, I don't know. In fact I don't know if I've spelt it correctly, both words are spelt the same etc.

trivial bickering alert:

Lovecraft didn't make up the Lloigor, Colin Wilson did, though as he made them up in a mythos context they became mixed up in general Cthulhu lore (just like the beasties created by Brian Lumley and Ramsey Campbell and the rest).

What with his story being set in Wales, and the fact that he's a pretentious kind of git, I'd imagine that the old English/Welsh word was used on purpose..

No bickering, I bow to your greater knowledge. Though British not English. The English where a group of violent, barbaric, invaders at the time.

no, no, my good man, I bow before your knowledge. I'm supposed to be studying history, after all..

There were no 'English' at the time. Angles, Saxons and Jutes. The language would have been an early version of Welsh (one of the group of Britonnic Celtic languages) and the word is something like 'llogres' or 'logres', which seems close enough to lloigors for there to be some connexion.

My NY resolution: not to be so fucking pompous. This Augustan fiction suit is beginning to chafe...

Just like every other fucking game on the planet (Legend of the Five Rings, Deadlands, Fading Suns) there's a d20 rules system of Call of Cuthulu coming out. No one has given up their rights to anything. d20 is just an "open source gaming system" that anyone can use. And it sells like the proverbial hotcake-type items.

Just picked up and started reading "The Children of Cthulhu", editted by John Pelan and Benjamin Adams. New Lovecraftian tales, so far quite good and creepy. Not pastiches, mind you. Poppy Z. Brite, John Laymon, Alan Dean Foster, Caitlin R. Kiernan to name a few. I'm really enjoying it.

That sounds quite good.

Who publishes it?
Where can I get it?

The Return Of Rothkoid

It's published by Ballantine Books. (ISBN: 0345449266) 532 pages, printed January 2002.

Amazon: £15

That's the only place I can find it online in the UK atm. Streetsonline gave me David Jason: The Biography when it couldn't make a match. Which is oddly fitting...

I got it through Previews when I did my order, so your local comic shop should be able to get it. It's US$23.95, but so far well worth it.

Riz, I'll keep my eyes open for the trade release that'll undoubtedly be solicited in Previews and let you know.
