Warning for an Earthquake

A very good friend of mine who has a history of accurate predictions has foreseen an imminent earthquake in the Santa Ana region of California. He said that it should be around 3am or 3pm mark.

Be Safe.

Well, not to be too sceptical, but did he say how big an earthquake? The number of small tremors in that area is probably on the order of 10-50 a week, so unless he said "a big/medium/damaging one", that prediction is pretty worthless.

Is your friend a seismologist?

He is a very educated man. He is aware that small earthquakes are quite common in that area. I am certain he wouldn't send out a warning for a tremor.

Here is a look at some of the seismic activity in that region. He said this wouldn have something to do with the activity in the ocean.

No, he is not a seismologist.

Things are changing . I hope it doesn't get much worse than a point five. I know that there are people doing prayer vigils for this.

Interesting that the article says: "A cluster of 18 earthquakes has shaken the same area since late Wednesday afternoon with the 5.0 magnitude quake the strongest." You don't suppose your friend saw this and since... forgot about it? And then it popped back into his head, but without the "source code"?

Forgot about what? The article, "source code"? Not sure what that is supposed to mean. If you think that my friend is surfing the web or watching TV it is not at all likely. He doesn't do either. Besides, that announcement came out quite a bit after he told us, as he had the premonition last night - Wednesday night. That information wasn't public then.

I just want to explain that regardless of whether anyone believes in my friend's prediction, I know his accuracy rate to be better than what most people can remember they did yesterday. This is why I take him seriously. If he is wrong, fabulous! No one has to die in a terrible disaster. At least for today. He would love nothing better than that and quite frankly, the same goes for me.

So, no one has to believe my friend or even myself, but I felt morally obligated to express this to people because I understand the kind of integrity this person has. If it does happen and this announcement happens to help one person, it is worth any questionable reactions it may attract at present.

However, some light reading on the relationship to foreshocks and large earthquakes.

Like I said though, we certainly hope that nothing happens. We are praying that a disaster doesn't happen.

He doesn't happen to have a day as well as a time, does he?

And so if it doesn't happen, will you have less faith in him? What then of the questionable reactions? As Haus points out, your friend didn't even give a day. "Imminent", what is that supposed to mean? This week, month, season, year?

You know I think you actually have a point even if it doesn't happen. These kinds of pseudo-predictions can, if they are broadcast on a big enough scale, make more of the population take precautions.

What abilities do you believe your friend possesses that allows him to make predictions about earthquakes?

Is your friend now immensely wealthy?

Cos I know that if I could make "accurate predictions" about (even nominally) unpredictable events, I'd sure as hell have cleaned up in the stock market over the last few months.

Guys, a very good friend of mine has foreseen (some might say prophecised!) that it might be a bit cloudy tomorrow around Norwich. She has a very accurate history with these types of things. So take care.

And wrap up warm or you'll catch a cold.

Mock, mock mock.

Oh well, he was wrong this time. That is actually a blessing. BTW, he has no interest in material gain. Everything he receives he gives away. Money isn't everything. Although, he has instructed other people who he knew would do good things with their money, on how to invest. Those people are doing quite well.

He has the kind of good nature that most people wouldn't even understand, nevermind actually begin to develop.

I dunno Papess, I'm sure your friend is a lovely person, but dispensing prophetic predictions about earthquakes seems a bit.. Sylvia Brownesque.

Papess, where you see mockery I see people questioning the worth of intuition/premonition/prophecy, especially as most such predictions are false, as was obviously the case with your friend's pronouncement.

I guess my question to you is - at what point do you no longer trust his premonitions? How many failures does it take to break your confidence? Note that I'm not asking you to disown your friendship. It's quite possible to have a great rapport and relationship without taking everything the other person is saying/doing as the gospel truth. Neither is doubting anyone's premonitions tantamount to saying they are charlatans, scams or in other ways Bad People.

Questioning is fine. However, there are ways of communicating with people which do not require sarcasm, condescension or demoralizing. It would certainly be more helpful without all that. Don't you think so?

As far as my faith in this person: I have seen his accuracy far too many times to let this shake me. He certainly is a lovely person and he doesn't have to resort to the tactics of Ms.Browne. However, even "the gods" or " powers that be" are wrong at times. Why shouldn't I accept that lovely human beings make mistakes, also? Just because one is psychic does not make them infallible. And if anyone thought that I believed that, well...you are wrong too.

Last I checked, Papess never indicated that her friend gave a date, just a time...

I for one am glad the Papess is looking out for us, even those of us not living on the coast.

*rumble* heh...
